Chapter 26
When Eloise found out about Leon’s death, she was in the middle of wiping Zackery’s face. Her movements became heavier involuntarily, and she couldn’t describe the feeling inside her.
Regret? Sadness? None of that.
While Eloise was daydreaming, she heard a hoarse voice. “Wife, are you trying to murder your husband with such
force?”
Eloise lowered her head and locked eyes with Zackery. The man’s gaze was gentle, with a smile playing at the corners. of his mouth, as he looked at her like that.
Tears fell unexpectedly on Zackery’s face, and Eloise couldn’t hold back anymore, she lay on top of Zackery and cried out in pain.
“You finally woke up…
“Do you know, do you know how long I waited for you?”
Zackery gently stroked the woman’s soft, flowing hair and said, “I know.”
He wrapped Eloise in his arms and kissed her forehead. “I know you were worried about me, so I fought desperately against those monsters who wanted to take my life.”
Eloise momentarily forgot to cry, tears still lingering on her cheeks, she asked, “And then?”
Zackery laughed, using his fingers to wipe away her tears, and pressed his forehead against Eloise’s, his voice low and husky. “And then, I won. I told them my wife was waiting for me.”
Watching Eloise leaning against his chest, Zackery felt his heart go soft, a very magical feeling.
“She.”
“Hmm?”
“I loved you.”
“I loved you too.”
Seeing that his wife was still a bit dazed, Zackery gently patted her shoulder and told her a story.
A long time ago, a boy had an argument with his parents and stormed out of the house in anger. But soon he got lost.
Night fell, the rain was pouring heavily, he had no umbrella, so he had to take shelter under an eave.

The person who found the girl arrived quickly, but he looked unfriendly. He grabbed the girl’s collar and tried to take her away.
The girl was forced to part with the puppy. She looked at the little boy and pleaded, “Can you take it home?”
In the pleading eyes of the girl, the little boy reluctantly agreed.
And so the puppy became the first pet the boy raised, named Moon, because the boy always remembered how bright the moon was that night.
The little boy grew up later and learned that the girl that night was the daughter of the Claire family in California, who was not favored.
They said she was a bastard, but the boy thought otherwise. Where could there be a bastard older than the daughter born to a legitimate wife, even her age was longer than the time when the head of the Claire family got married.
It was obvious that the little girl’s mother was gone. That’s why the little girl was holding the puppy and saying, “I don’t have a home either.”
