Chapter 27
“How are you here? Are you following me?” I spoke first, my tone so cold it carried no emotion.
He lifted his hand holding the cigarette and threw his phone from the dashboard onto my lap, “Explain this.”
I looked down–the screen was lit, clearly showing the manor owner information and my property purchase records.
I handed the phone back to him, my tone calm, “What’s wrong with me buying a house? I spent my own money, didn’t touch a penny of yours.”
He narrowed his eyes, “Elara, don’t play clever games. I’m asking why you bought it and why you hid it from me.”
I smiled lightly: “I felt there was no need to mention it. I just wanted to own a house that truly belongs to me, with my name on it. Is that wrong?”
He was stunned for a moment, then sneered coldly, “When have I ever been stingy with you all these years? Which set of jewelry I gave you isn’t worth more than this house?”
I remained silent.
He pulled out a stack of cards from his wallet–black cards, gold cards–and carelessly threw them into my lap: “Like buying houses? Buy as many as you want, all in your name. Buy until you’re happy.”
I couldn’t help but laugh out loud: “The Alpha is indeed generous.”
Perhaps I should have continued playing dumb for these cards, these resources, continued enduring betrayal, continued being a numb
machine.
money–making
It wouldn’t be a bad way out.
But I was always unwilling to accept it–should life really be a dead end?
I picked up his wallet, carefully tucked the cards back one by one, closed it gently, and handed it back to him.
“I don’t want to buy any more for now. If I want to buy someday, I’ll ask you for money then.”
Just as I was about to withdraw my hand, he suddenly gripped my wrist, his voice low:
“Don’t you trust me anymore?”
You’re only realizing this now?
I was both angry and amused, “Whether I trust you or not, does it matter? As long as you’re happy.”
I pulled my hand back.
Just then, my phone rang.
My body tensed slightly–was Jack replying to that message?
Rowan noticed my small moment of tension, his gaze immediately becoming sharp: “You don’t answer my calls, but you won’t answer others‘ either?”
I had no choice but to take it out.
Seeing “Mrs. Mercer” flash on the screen, I was momentarily speechless.
Seeing it was his mother, his expression relaxed: “Answer it.”
I sneered inwardly. She was definitely calling to “remind” me again–afraid I’d back out.
I answered: “I’m with your son right now. Do you want to talk to him first?”

Chapter 27
The other end paused for two seconds, swallowing whatever she was going to say, “No need, I’m calling to ask if you still want that bag you liked last time?”
“Yes, I’ve sent all my bags for maintenance recently, so I’m short on bags.”
“Then come pick it up.”
“Thank you.”
A few words and the call ended.
Rowan looked at me suspiciously: “When did your relationship become so good?”
I smiled without answering him.
“Isn’t this a good thing?” I looked at him, my tone calm, “Would you prefer me and your mother fighting tooth and nail?”
He remained silent.
He always hated when I used words to corner him, yet he habitually ignored the main point.
However, at this moment, Rowan’s anger had indeed dissipated considerably.
He was convinced I was just throwing a tantrum with him, wanting to secretly do things beyond his control, seeking some so–called “backbone.”
Just minor rebellion.
“I’ll drive you back,” he said.
I frowned slightly, glancing at him, “Then my car…”
“I’ll have someone drive it back for you.”
He wouldn’t accept refusal, directly locking the car doors and stepping on the gas.
