Chapter 56
Wait, that doesn’t make sense. Isn’t he supposed to be in a love–hate relationship with Amelia?
Used to like women, now likes men?
I blinked, my mind completely confused.
Garrett Wylder: “In any case, I’m correcting you because you were wrong. There was no kissing. As my secretary, you cannot have such misconceptions.”
I nodded repeatedly, “Okay, okay, okay, I understand, I understand.”
Only then did Garrett Wylder walk away.
I watched his tall, upright figure: Although… do I really need to know this much about his private life?
By the time I returned to my room, Amelia was already up.
She was also fully awake.
“Secretary Elara, thank you for last night.”
“No need to thank me.”
I smiled.
“I’ll head out first then. See you at the company.”
Amelia said goodbye and walked out of the room, leaving directly.
At nine in the morning, Garrett Wylder took me and Clay, along with two other senior executives from headquarters who had arrived a few days earlier, to the branch office.
They were already prepared and waiting.
From the day they received notice that the Alpha was coming for inspection, they hadn’t dared to slack off, afraid of a surprise attack.
Amelia had changed into a pure white business suit, looking intellectual and capable.
When Garrett Wylder arrived at the company entrance, she stood at the door with all the branch management, respectfully welcoming him.
“Good morning, Alpha. Welcome, we’re honored by your guidance.”
Garrett Wylder’s gaze swept across her face briefly, greeted the executives simply, and then moved to the conference room.
They spent the entire day at the branch office.
Meetings, listening to work reports, reviewing company accounts, monitoring important project progress…
At noon, Amelia arranged lunch at a local specialty restaurant.
In the evening, she arranged a dinner with important project partners. The branch’s deputy manager and finance manager also attended, filling the luxurious private room with a large table of people.
Clay and I had been assisting all day and were thoroughly exhausted.
At this moment, we sat in the rest area outside the private room.

Chapter 56
“Elara, did you notice? Amelia today is like a completely different person from last night
Clay said gossiping. After two days together, we’d become familiar, and he started calling me by my first name.
I held my tablet, focused intently on the screen, not looking up: “Last night was her emotional side showing, today is work. She keeps hustre and personal separate.”
“Then you probably haven’t seen her when she doesn’t keep them separate, right?”
“Well, let the Alpha handle his own love–hate entanglements.”
“You were scared by last night, weren’t you?”
“Yes, indeed, it’s too complicated…”
Thinking of Garrett Wylder saying he didn’t like women, I couldn’t help but glance at the handsome, scholarly looking Clay, my expression complex and unspeakable.
Clay was puzzled: “Why do you keep looking at me strangely?”
I withdrew my gaze: “Nothing.” I continued looking down at my tablet.
Clay curiously leaned over and discovered I was reviewing factory attendance sheets, payroll data, and other information.
“Is there a problem here?”
“Something’s odd. The attendance numbers match the payroll numbers, but the actual on–site personnel count in the attachments is missing two people, every single day.”
“…That’s impossible.”
Clay took it to look, and only after careful examination did he spot the discrepancy.
Because the attendance and payroll matched, but the on–site count was missing two people, finance generally wouldn’t scrutinize these attachments closely. At first glance, nothing seemed wrong, and the Alpha’s inspection certainly wouldn’t catch this.
I explained: “Under normal circumstances, this situation couldn’t occur. The factory has dedicated personnel responsible for everything from recruitment to deployment. Attendance shows 1,024 people, on–site/shows 1,022. The only possibility is that someone exploited a management loophole for ghost payroll, but based on just this data, I can’t make/definitive conclusions about who or how.”
Clay continued looking: “Over ten years, converting the wages here to US dollars, these two ‘ghost‘ employees have collected nearly 6 million in salaries.”
“I suspect collusion between someone at the factory and someone within the company. Ten years without detection–it’s inconceivable.”
“We should tell the Alpha about this, but tomorrow he has to attend a government–hosted business summit.”
“How about this–I’ll go to the factory tomorrow first and identify these ‘ghost‘ employees.”
“Good idea.”
As we were discussing, someone walked out of the private room. Hearing our conversation, their expression flashed with tension and mu intent.
