Chapter 4
My heart lurched violently. Looking at Charlotte’s despair and listening to Jaxon and Nora’s tearful accusations, I suddenly realized the truth of the situation.
I laughed bitterly in despair, only to be kicked again.
The man said, “Bastard! You still dare to laugh! Now we have witnesses. Confess quickly-how exactly did you kill those children?”
Gasping for breath and trembling all over, I met his gaze and smiled.
I said, “Since when is it your place to convict me? If you really think I’m guilty, you should call the police. Let’s see if the cops will find me guilty when they arrive.”
Hearing my words, everyone around laughed.
The man said, “The police released you without charges those previous times because they couldn’t find any evidence of you killing anyone. But you’ve done too many wrong things. Just wait for your parents to personally hand you over to the police.”
Just as he finished speaking, police officers pushed through the crowd from behind, asking, “Who called to report a murderer here?”
Many people in the crowd responded. Apparently, when Jaxon and Nora accused me of killing the children, they had all called 6
the police.
children all died suddenly. Why are you saying Jonathan killed them again?”
“This time it was Jonathan’s own parents who said it,” someone
shouted.
A woman chimed in, “That’s right. They witnessed Jonathan killing with their own eyes.”
The officers looked in surprise at Jaxon and Nora, who were looking down and wiping away tears.
Nora choked up, sighed deeply, and said, “We were wrong to help cover it up before. His father and I thought he could change. But watching him kill his children again and again, our consciences couldn’t bear it anymore.”
The officer asked again, “Since you’re saying Jonathan killed his own children, what method did he use?”
Jaxon and Nora were momentarily stunned, but they quickly
recovered.
Nora said, “We don’t know exactly how he did it, but his methods must have been cruel. He used to enjoy researching various ways to torture small animals to death. So you need to force him to confess exactly how he committed the murders.”
Listening to the lies they made up on the spot, my heart felt especially cold.
If I hadn’t done that paternity test before, I would really wonder 445was their child.

More and more onlookers gathered around, and fearing they
couldn’t control the situation, the police decided to take me back
to the station.
But just as we were about to leave, Charlotte blocked my path.
Her eyes were bloodshot as she stared at me intently and asked, “Jonathan, tell me the truth. Did you kill our children?”
My whole body went numb. I wanted to explain, but under everyone’s gaze, I could only nod.
“I don’t believe it! Jonathan, you’re so gentle-how could you possibly have XYY syndrome? Impossible! Is there something you can’t say?” Charlotte looked at me, nearly breaking down.
Seeing her almost shattered state, my heart ached, but I could only say, “I did it. Charlotte, I’m sorry.”
Charlotte suddenly stepped back several paces and nearly fell.
She looked at me in disbelief, and everyone around was stunned
too.
Even though they had already thought I was probably the killer when they heard Jaxon and Nora’s accusations, hearing me confess with their own ears still shocked them.
One woman said, “My God! Jonathan confessed directly?”
Another woman was very confused: “Could someone really be so heartless as to kill his own children?”

A man roared angrily, “Beast! He’s a complete beast! Give him the death penalty!”
Charlotte completely broke down, grabbing my clothes and demanding, “Why? Why did you do this? Emily was so obedient to you. You clearly adored her so much. Was all of that just an act? Jonathan, why?”
Faced with Charlotte’s questioning, I closed my eyes in pain.
Seeing more and more people gathering, the police quickly took me to the station.
Even sitting in the interrogation room, I still couldn’t accept the truth of the children’s deaths.
But two officers had already come to question me.
Since I had personally admitted to killing my children, they asked about my motive and method as soon as they entered.
I didn’t know what lies to make up, so I remained silent.
One officer grew impatient and said, “Jonathan, you’ve already confessed-you can’t escape legal punishment. But think about those lovely children. They were all your biological children. What method did you use that could make them die so mysteriously just from calling you ‘Daddy’?”
I said, “I’m wondering about the method too.”
The other officer was dissatisfied with my attitude: “What lies are you trying to concoct now? What you need to do is confe5:16
truthfully. Or perhaps you didn’t actually harm your children, and there’s more to this story. You need to trust us. Jonathan, if there’s more to this story, we’ll definitely help you uncover the truth.”
I looked up at him and asked, “If I confess everything I know, will you help my children get justice?”
