Chapter 5
He instantly became excited: “We’ll definitely cooperate.”
I said, “I have one condition. I want to see my wife.”
After hearing my condition, the officers all looked troubled.
Own
After Charlotte learned that I had killed the child with my ow hands, her heart was filled with nothing but hatred toward me. Every day, she only told the police that they must make me pay the price. Beyond that, she never said another word.
So there was no way she would agree to see me.
Even Charlotte’s therapist advised her not to see me for the time being.
Though they found it difficult, the officers still tried to discuss this matter with Charlotte.
When I saw Charlotte again, she had lost a lot of weight. It seemed she had been going through hell during this time.
My nose stung with emotion, and I even wanted to slap myself. I wasn’t a good father, and I was an even worse husband.
Charlotte asked me expressionlessly, “Well? What do you want?”
I took a deep breath and tried to speak as calmly as possible: “Charlotte, in this relationship, I’m the one who wronged you:16 Do you remember that kindergarten surveillance footage you
At the mention of that footage, Charlotte immediately perked up: “How do you know someone suddenly sent me that surveillance video?”
I said, “Because I had someone send it to you.”
Charlotte was completely stunned, her eyes full of confusion: “Why? Why would you do that? Who was the child in the video? Was it Emily? Jonathan, what the hell happened? Tell me now.”
I frowned and shook my head: “That wasn’t Emily. But if you care about that child, you should take her and leave immediately.”
“What do you mean? If she’s not Emily, why would I take her? How could her parents possibly allow me to do that?” Charlotte pressed, “Jonathan, explain yourself clearly.”
Charlotte frantically pounded on the glass, but I had already cut off the call and turned to leave.
After this meeting with Charlotte, I learned from the officers that Jaxon and Nora’s situation was very bad.
One officer sighed: “They were afraid you’d become a murderer before, so they kept covering for you. Now that everything’s been exposed, they have to bear some legal responsibility for helping you conceal your crime. The trial hasn’t started yet, but they’ve already suffered a lot of online harassment and real-world attacks. Your father was hospitalized for heart problems. If you have any conscience left, you should come clean right now and stop letting this thing escalate.” 2/4

After hearing his words, I laughed. The officers were all somewhat displeased, thinking I was too cold-blooded and heartless.
But after hearing the truth I revealed, they all stood there stunned. Finally, one officer said, “The truth can wait until the trial, where you can debate it in court.”
On the day of the trial, the courtroom was packed.
This case had spread too widely. The jury box was completely full, and outside the courthouse, several layers of people had gathered. They were all waiting to see the truth.
After a month, I finally saw Jaxon and Nora again.
They had aged considerably, their hair whiter than before. Having suddenly lost weight, the wrinkles on their faces seemed more pronounced.
Nora cried as she questioned me: “Jonathan, I’ve thought about it for a month, but I still can’t understand why you would kill your own child.”
Looking at Nora’s grief-stricken appearance, I let out a cold laugh: “Dad, Mom, do you really not know the reason?”
“What do you mean by that? Of course we don’t know! We’re normal people-how could we understand the thoughts of a monster like you!” Nora said.
I scoffed: “Stop pretending. The killer wasn’t me at all—it was 36ûtwo.”
