Chapter 2

But I’m petty, and I couldn’t easily let this couple have their

way.

I didn’t give Finley a chance to refuse and replied directly: [Come downstairs. I have stomach medicine in my car.]

Since I was the one paying him, he didn’t dare delay.

When he arrived, Finley’s face was pale, his forehead covered with a thin layer of sweat. I couldn’t tell if this was from nervousness or actual stomach pain.

I motioned for him to get in the car, then handed him the stomach medicine and a thermos.

Then I held out my palm and said in an unquestionable tone: “Your phone.”

Finley frowned warily and asked, “What are you going to do?”

I said calmly, “I’m going to book you an appointment on the hospital’s online platform. If you’re not feeling well, don’t tough it out.”

Seeing my hand still extended in the air, Finley hesitated for a moment before slowly handing over his phone.

I successfully made an appointment on the hospital’s online platform. Then I casually took a photo of our reflection in the

car window and posted it directly to his WhatsApp status.

The contact labeled “Emilia Henderson” immediately sent him a message: [?]

“What are you doing?” Finley snatched his phone back. His hard fingernails left a conspicuous red mark on the back of my hand.

For the first time, Finley’s usually smiling eyes were filled with coldness. He said, “Who gave you permission to post photos on my WhatsApp status?”

I didn’t feel uneasy about being caught. I crossed my arms and leaned back in my seat, meeting his gaze calmly.

I said, “Finley, is this how you talk to me?”

Finley’s expression stiffened for a moment, but his tone remained harsh. He gripped his phone tightly and said, “I’m about to join a new research group, and my advisor values students’ character highly. Do you know that? Your behavior could ruin all my efforts. We agreed not to make our relationship public. Don’t put me in a difficult position.”

Before I could say anything, Finley had already gotten out of the car and left.

Not far away, a girl in a white dress was staring in our direction. When she saw Finley walking over, she showed a victor’s smile.

Soon after, she posted another update.

[That old woman is so shameless. She actually stole my

boyfriend’s phone to post intimate photos. Fortunately, that was his secondary account.]

[But my boyfriend is so cool – he confronted that old woman on the spot.]

[Tonight, we’re celebrating his birthday at PlatiMist Dining. The average cost per person there is two thousand dollars.]

I let out a cold laugh, then immediately canceled all of Finley’s supplementary cards.

He wanted to show off, didn’t he? I really wanted to see how spectacular his expression would be when he couldn’t pay in front of his beloved girlfriend.

I turned the car around and immediately called my good friend Bonnie Cameron to go clubbing.

After hearing about my ordeal, Bonnie sighed, “Why did such an innocent boy turn bad?” She glanced at me. “You’re not actually heartbroken, are you?”

I didn’t answer her.

People say that where you spend your money is where your love is. In the two years we’d been together, I’d spent nearly a million dollars on Finley, so now I felt it wasn’t worth it.

I met Finley at the hospital. I had just finished getting blood drawn and fainted from low blood sugar. The people around me

were afraid of getting into trouble and didn’t dare help. Only Finley knelt down and put a fruit candy in my mouth.

The candy had a cheap artificial flavor, but it was unexpectedly

sweet.

At that time, I had just experienced my parents’ death in a car accident. Relatives who had been very kind to me before didn’t hesitate to turn against me to fight over the inheritance. Finley had warmed me with his pure, unworldly kindness.

Later, I learned that his mother Penelope Mclean had a serious illness. I used my connections to arrange a hospital room for her and took care of all the medical expenses.

With tears in his eyes, Finley said, “Isabelle, you’re only five years older than me, but you’re so capable. You’re amazing.’

Now, what was once a red rose had become worthless mosquito blood, and I had become the “old woman” he wanted to avoid.

After I had three drinks, Bonnie pressed down on my wrist. She said, “Stop drinking. There’s a MIT job fair tomorrow. Come with me to recruit an assistant.”

The next morning, I discovered that my dead phone had nearly been blown up by Finley’s calls.

He had sent many messages: [Isabelle, I just said a few extra words. Did you really have to cancel my cards?]

[My laptop is being repaired. Transfer me five thousand dollars 4/5

immediately.]

[Haven’t you made enough of a scene? The repair shop people are all laughing at me.]

[Answer the phone! Do you know how embarrassed I am?]

I cleared the notification bar directly.

Bonnie’s message popped up right after: [It’s almost noon now. Where are you?]
