Her vision impressed him, but ideas weren’t enough. To bring her
designs to life, Jennifer developed a new gemstone–cutting and setting technique.
Peter offered her a part–time position at VelvetRose so she wouldn’t have to quit school.
She said no.
Jennifer never cared about the jewelry industry. She wasn’t after fame. Instead, she took the alias B. Y. and chose a share of Melody Series sales.
She never expected the collection to take off like it did. Overnight, B.Y. became the jewelry world’s most sought–after, mysterious designer.
Looking at Jennifer now, Peter could tell that her marriage wasn’t a happy one. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be here tonight.
“Master Designer, please give me a chance.”
Jennifer was amused. “You flatter me. The Melody Series was just a lucky spark. Jewelry design isn’t really my thing.”
“That’s the sad part. You have no idea how many designers at VelvetRose would kill to have even half your talent.”
She smiled but didn’t say anything.
“Whenever you’re ready, the offer’s still there. The contract’s been sitting around forever. You can put down whatever salary you want,

and your share of the sales stays the same. Velvet Rose will always
have a spot for you.” Right away, Peter noticed Jennifer staring out the window.
From where she sat, she had a clear view of the hall below.
Brayan stepped inside, his late arrival causing a stir.
There were plenty of powerful business people, but none of them looked like Brayan.
Brayan wore a sharp white suit with a black shirt underneath. The contrast fit perfectly with his cold, elegant presence. He didn’t wear a tie, which gave him a touch of romantic charm. And the curve of his lips softened his sculpted features, making him look inviting without even trying.
Right then, women in the hall gasped, eyes filled with admiration.
Catalina didn’t move, waiting for Brayan, like a princess awaiting her prince.
Envious glances turned her way. Suddenly, she was the center of attention.
She smiled, looking proud.
She was just an intern at VelvetRose, but in moments like this, the spotlight always found her.
Jennifer was surprised to see Brayan here.
She watched as he walked straight to Catalina, not even glancing around.
In three years, Jennifer had never seen him willingly get close to another woman.

At one point, she had believed it was because she was different and he loved her.
Now she knew: Catalina was the different one.
Standing together, they looked perfect.
Jennifer suddenly felt out of place.
Their last conversation had ended badly, with him tearing up the divorce papers. She was still his wife, but now he was with someone else.
“You’re not thinking of leaving already, are you?” Peter asked carefully.
He wanted his plan to succeed: sign Jennifer up.
But as much as he wanted that, he wouldn’t stop her if she was leaving. He knew what she was seeing wasn’t easy.
Jennifer kept her eyes on Brayan and Catalina, watching them chat and laugh. After a long pause, she turned to Peter.
After a long pause, she turned to Peter. “If I asked you for a gift right now, would you give it to me?”
Down in the hall, Brayan placed a bouquet of pink roses in Catalina’s arms. Her smile was sweet and shy.
Beside her, Elise and Ally were buzzing enviously.
“Mr. LeBlanc is rich, hot, and successful. You must’ve saved the world in your past life to land him, Catalina.”
“And he adores you! He pushed back a big meeting just to be here tonight.”
