The next day, at my birthday banquet, the four of them arrived.
Though clearly reluctant, they had no choice–forced by their families to attend, dressed to perfection.
They stood together, impassive, enduring the envious stares of the crowd.
Minutes stretched into hours, but I never appeared.
Hayden was the first to notice. His brows furrowed as he kept glancing between the entrance and backstage.
“Debbie still isn’t here.”
Easton sneered. “She has clung to us for so many years. Even if she were dead, she’d show up today to choose one of us. The only question is–which one of us will be unlucky?”
The four exchanged loaded looks.
But then, whispers rippled through the hall.
The Sinclair family’s butler stepped forward–holding four boxes.
The moment Easton and the others saw them, an inexplicable dread stirred in their chests.
Tradition dictated that once I chose my fiancé, the other three would have their engagemen tokens returned.
They knew this, and they expected it.
But now–there were four boxes.
As the butler approached, their eyes widened in shock!
Expressionless, he announced, “Master Lovato, Young Master Wright, Young Master Ramirez Young Master Lopez–Miss Debbie has returned all your engagement tokens. Please verify it.”
His words detonated like a bomb.
The hall fell into absolute silence.
Easton’s eyes widened in disbelief.
The faces of Connor and the other two turned grim, their expressions as dark as storm clouds.
They hastily tore open the gift boxes in their hands–only to find inside the engagement token: of their families.
The confirmation hit them hard. Their expressions sank even further.
Easton was the first to lash out.
“What is Debbie trying to do? What does she mean by this? Tell her to stop throwing tantrums- no one will tolerate her anymore!”
Connor’s smile had long disappeared. His entire face was cast in shadow, terrifying to behold “Is Debbie still brooding over what happened last night? Tell her I can explain, but she can’t keep making trouble like this. If she does, we won’t indulge her like we used to.”
Kenji’s eyes burned with fury. “So this is how the Sinclair family handles things? Allowing Debbie to act willfully? This isn’t a game–this concerns the four great families! You’d better make her

give us an explanation!”
Hayden, however, stood frozen, staring at the engagement token in silence. His eyes brimmed with a sorrow he couldn’t put into words.
Deep down, he had already suspected Debbie might not choose him. He had even steeled himself for the possibility that his token would be returned.
But recently, Connor and the others treated her so poorly. Even Easton, the one Debbie had always adored, had turned his heart toward Charlie, showering her with affection.
Hayden had thought this might be his chance. He had thought that, among all the wrong choices, he might be the least wrong.
He had thought he could finally be the one to stand beside Debbie.
But he never expected that Debbie would choose none of them.
The butler, though surrounded by the four furious men, remained perfectly composed.
Young Masters, regarding this matter, the young lady said you should have expected this. She also said this is what you truly wanted–she is simply granting your wish.”
And besides,” the butler added with a faint smile, “the young lady did choose a fiancé. It jus sn’t one of you.”
Easton ground his teeth until his jaw ached, roaring, “What nonsense are you spouting? If Debbie lidn’t choose any of us, then who else could she possibly choose?”
The butler chuckled softly. “The young lady’s engagement ceremony will be held tomorrow. I ‘ou four receive an invitation, you are welcome to attend. By then, you’ll know exactly whom she las chosen.”
His words, calm and unshaken, only fanned their fury.
Kenji, unable to bear it, seized the butler by the collar. “What the hell are you talking about? The only ones Debbie could possibly choose are us four! Even if she’s angry about last night, she houldn’t be joking about something this serious! Call her back right now–everyone here is vaiting for her to show herself!”
His tone carried a sharp, threatening edge.
(et the butler stood his ground. No matter what Kenji did, he maintained his polite, unyielding smile.
Their exchange had not gone unheard. The other guests, listening closely from the sidelines, were stunned.
Whispers quickly spread among the crowd.
‘How could the young lady of the Sinclair family do such a thing?”
‘If she didn’t choose any of the four, then who could it possibly be?”
Then someone, eager to gossip, stepped forward and lowered their voice.
“Honestly, I can understand her decision. You probably don’t know what happened at the auction. Easton and the others humiliated her–forced her to kneel and kowtow, and even apologize to the daughter of a maid. That maid’s daughter wore a cheap necklace, one of the Sinclair family’s own promotional giveaways, and they insisted Debbie put it on.”

“To be honest, if it had been me, I would have exploded on the spot.”
“If the Sinclair family elders knew what Debbie endured, they’d be ready to declare war on the other four families.”
The murmurs grew louder, and the guests‘ gazes toward Easton and the others shifted instantly. After all, the five great families ruled the highest tiers of society, and those present at Debbie’s birthday banquet were all wealthy elites themselves.
People like them value dignity and boundaries above all else. To humiliate one’s own fiancée for the sake of a maid’s daughter–such behavior was beneath contempt.
If the Sinclair family parents had not been abroad, they would have gone to war with the Lovatc family the very moment they heard what happened. And the Wright, Ramirez, and Lopez families, complicit in their silence, would not be spared either.
Hearing the rising tide of criticism, Easton and the others did not reflect on their mistakes.
Instead, their expressions grew even darker.
They shoved all the blame onto Debbie.
in their eyes, she was just throwing another childish tantrum. No matter what they had done to her, this time she had gone too far.
Hatred and cold fury sharpened in their eyes.
Just as they were about to snap–a slender figure appeared in the doorway.
