Chapter 9
The club was bustling with people, a vibrant scene of nighttime revelry.
In a corner, Ivor sat, and before long, he’d downed half a bottle of strong liquor.
A friend stopped him, frowning at his reckless drinking.
“Ivor, what’s going on? Did you have a falling out with Kira?”
“Bro, tell us from the heart. Are you planning to get a divorce again?”
Ivor snatched the glass back and finally looked up.
“Who told you that?”
Perhaps the lighting in the private room was too dim, for the man didn’t notice Ivor’s growing coldness in his eyes.
Thinking he’d guessed right,
he slung an arm around Ivor’s shoulder, leaning in with a chuckle.
“Hey, don’t hide it from us brothers. When you and Nina were going through that divorce, you had the exact same look on your face!”
Noticing Ivor’s slight pause in expression, the man asked him,
“Do you still have any contact with Nina?”
shrugged off the arm from his shoulder and drained the glass in one gulp.
look like an idiot to you? Why would I contact her for no reason and then let her latch onto me again?”
Everyone present could sense the disgust in his words.
Laughter erupted.
A man who had just squeezed his way into their circle and was standing at the doorway timidly raised his hand.
“Speaking of Nina, I actually know a secret.”
Ivor, whose eyes had been lowered, suddenly lifted his gaze.
“Have any of you seen Nina in these past three years?”
The man, after being permitted to sit across from Ivor, asked in a hushed, mysterious tone.
“Didn’t Ivor send her abroad with a half–year deadline? Hasn’t she come back?”
Everyone thought for a moment and then shook their heads.
The man asked again,
“So, in these past three years, has anyone heard any news about Nina?”
Another moment of silence ensued.
Just as the man was about to ask again, someone grew impatient.
He waved his hands repeatedly before finally getting to the point.
“Nina.., she’s dead.”
Everyone’s eyes widened in shock.
Only Ivor’s brown eyes seemed to freeze, unmoving, as if he’d been petrified.

Then, suddenly, he grabbed the speaker by the neck, his teeth clenched.
“If you dare spout such nonsense again, I’ll chop your mouth into pieces.”
The man shrank his shoulders in fear.
“Mr. Bolton, how could I dare to lie to you? I heard it straight from Celine’s own mouth.”
As everyone knew, Celine was Nina’s best friend.
She wouldn’t joke about something like this regarding Nina.
“Celine cried and asked Cedric why he didn’t tell her about Nina’s death. Because of this, Celine is still in a cold war with Cedric now. If you don’t believe me, you can go ask. I’m not lying.”
Ivor tightened his grip even more.
He suddenly recalled the day Nina took the initiative to contact him for the last time.
At that moment, he was truly surprised.
Because Ivor knew how much Nina valued him in her heart.
So, in fact, he had already made up his mind not to divorce her for the rest of his life.
But that day, she had signed the divorce agreement first.
She said she was dying.
At this very moment, Ivor truly realized how much those words had hurt him.
After leaving the club, Ivor immediately booked a flight ticket abroad.
Sitting on the plane, he couldn’t help but think that he must have gone crazy.
A single falsehood had sent him rushing across the ocean in the middle of the night.
This kind of reckless, all–or–nothing determination had only surfaced once before, when he’d proposed a divorce to Nina.
Both times, it was somehow connected to her.
Ivor laughed at himself mockingly.
Closing his eyes, he felt the turbulence of the journey.
He’d never wished for anything like this before.
If only time could slow down a bit, that would be great.
When he pressed the doorbell of Celine’s villa, Ivor’s hand was trembling.
He didn’t know what he was so nervous about.
Even if Nina was really dead, what did it have to do with him?
They were divorced.
She wasn’t his wife anymore,
He’d stopped loving her years ago.
Ivor, don’t be afraid.
At the moment the door opened, he saw the intense hatred in Celine’s eyes, along with her fists and kicks aimed at him.
He didn’t resist and just quietly endured the blows.
Celine could only cry, saying nothing.

In fact, there was no need for her to say anything.
But why?
Why had Nina lived a peaceful life in his previous recollection?
A thought flashed through Ivor’s mind.
In an instant, his face turned deathly pale.
It wasn’t until he saw the man in front of him
All the color drained from his face.
