Two days before I left the country.
I went to a bar to splurge, ordering a couple
of male strippers to give me a private show.
I wanted a taste of picking up men, too.
I choked on my drink.
We suddenly heard a commotion.
Ashley was sitting at the bar.
She was wasted, slurring her words. “After
we’re done with her at the wedding, let’s kick
her to the curb. It’s annoying having her
around.”
For the first time, Jackson didn’t immediately
give in. He was quiet for a moment, then said,
“We’ll see.”
Ashley blinked and looked at Hayden. “What
do you think, Hayden?”
Hayden looked away. “She’s so attached to
me… I mean, my brother. If we just dumped
her, she couldn’t handle it.”
Ashley frowned. “You guys aren’t going soft,
are you? You both agreed to prank Riley in
college. You weren’t happy when it didn’t
work out, and you wanted to mess with her
again. This is the perfect opportunity to crush
her.”
The guys they were with chimed in. “Ashley
cares about you guys. Who’s Riley? Ditch
her.”
“You don’t want to hurt Ashley, do you?”
“Don’t forget, we used to play pretend, and
you guys always wanted to be Ashley’s
husband.”
“Ashley’s like family. You’d give her the stars.
Don’t refuse her this.”
“If she’s a pain, Jackson, just give her a
goodbye bang. You haven’t touched her in
years. It’s a favor.”
The comments section erupted:
[What’s wrong with the Hall brothers? They
used to give Ashley everything.]
[You think they’re catching feelings for the
side chick?]
[Hayden’s been cooking for her all this time. Maybe he’s getting attached.]
<
[You’re reading too much into it. They’ll lock
her in the basement when they find out she’s
pregnant.]
I didn’t look at the comments. I held my
breath, waiting for their answer.
After a long wait, I heard Jackson say, “Okay.
I get it.”
My heart skipped a beat.
Okay.
As expected.
