I woke to the gentle sensation & Kalus’s fingers tracing patterns on hy bare shoulder. His amber eyes were soft in the morning light, filled with a tenderness I’d missed for so long. We’d spent the fight talking, reconnecting, healing wounds that had seemed impossible to mend just days ago.
“Good morning,” he murmured, pressing a kiss to my forehead.
“Morning,” I replied, nestling closer to his warmth. “What time is it?
Early. The sun’s barely up. His hand drifted down my arm, leaving easant shivers in its wake. I could stay like this all day.”
I smiled against his chest. “The mighty Alpha King, neglecting his duties to lounge in bed? The pack would be scandalized.”
“Let them talk. He pulled me closer, his lips finding mine in a kiss that threatened to distract us both from the day ahead.
A knock at the door interrupted us, and I groaned in frustration. “Ignore it,” I suggested, attempting to recapture his lips.
The knocking persisted, more insistent this time.
“Someone’s determined, Kaius sighed, reluctantly pulling away. “Just a minute,” he called toward the door.
I hurriedly pulled the sheets up to cover myself as Kaius slipped on pants and went to the door, opening it just enough to see who was there.
“I apologize for disturbing you, Alpha,” came Daisy’s voice, “but I have the results Luna requested last week. I thought she might want them right away.”
My breath hitched. Last week. That’s when the subtle changes had started, the quiet suspicion growing in the back of my mind. The terrifying possibility it raised was something I couldn’t bring myself to voice directly to Kaius, not with everything else fractured between us. So, I’d quietly asked Daisy to arrange the tests for me, hoping for answers, dreading them too.
“Send her in,” I sat up, adjusting the sheets more securely.
Daisy entered, her medical bag clutched in her hands, her eyes carefully avoiding looking directly at Kaius’s bare chest or the obvious state of the bed.
“Luna,” she said with a respectful nod.
“I’ll step out,” Kaius offered, grabbing a shirt.
‘No,
stay,” I said, surprising myself with the request. Whatever news Daisy brought, I wanted him with me.
Daisy closed the door behind her, her expression carefully neutral. The result is out,” she announced, pulling a paper from her bag. “You are pregnant, Luna,”
“Wait what?” The words hit me like a physical blow.
Kaius went completely still beside me, his eyes widening.
“Take a seat, Luna; you look pale,” Daisy suggested to Kaius, who indeed had gone several shades lighter.
I couldn’t help the laugh that bubbled up. “I think it’s the Alpha who needs to sit down, Daisy.”
Kaius sank onto the edge of the bed, his expression a mixture of shock and something else–something that looked suspiciously like

joy. “Pregnant?‘ he echoed.
My hand drifted unconsciously to my abdomen. “Are you sure there has been no mistake? I asked Daisy.
“Yes, I am very sure Luna, and it is a thing of joy, Daisy replied, her professional demeanor softening with genuine warmth,
“Of course, it’s just…” I looked at Kaius, uncertain of his reaction now that the initial shock was passing.
“You know what? You are right,” I managed, watching Kaius’s face carefully. “It is a joy.”
Daisy glanced between us, clearly sensing the need for privacy. “I’ll gave you two to… process this news. Please don’t hesitate to call if you need anything, Luna.” She packed up her bag and slipped quietly from the room.
As soon as the door closed, I turned to Kaius. “So… that happened.”
He was still staring at me with that stunned expression. “A baby.”
“Yes, that’s generally what pregnant‘ means.”
“You didn’t think I ‘forgot‘ to use protection, did you?” he asked suddenly, a sly smile spreading across his face.
I blinked, processing his words. “Wait. Did you do this on purpose?” I smacked his arm lightly. “Kaius Valerian, did you deliberately get me pregnant?”
His smile widened into a grin. “Maybe.”
“You sneaky, manipulative—” I launched myself at him, tackling him back onto the bed. He caught me easily, rolling so that I landed on my back with him hovering above me.
“Are you mad?” he asked, suddenly serious.
I softened, reaching up to touch his face. “How could I be mad? This is… unexpected, but wonderful.” I paused, studying his expression. “But why didn’t you ask me first? What if I wasn’t ready?
“Because I know you, Elowen.” His hand drifted to my stomach, resting gently over where our child grew. “And I know that after everything we’ve lost, creating something new, something that belongs to both of us… it felt right.”
Tears welled in my eyes, not from sadness but from the overwhelming rightness of it. “Our child,” I whispered.
“Elowen,” he said, his gaze intense. “I didn’t understand life before. Not really. But Frost’s death, and now… our baby. A new life. It means we have to hold it sacred now, truly sacred. We owe it to Frost to raise this child well. Promise me.” He paused, his voice thick with emotion. “He would’ve been thrilled, more than anyone.”
