Chapter 273
Six months had passed since that fateful day when Daisy had delivered the news of my pregnancy, and my body had changed dramatically in the interim. My once–flat stomach now protruded proudly, housing the miracle Kaius and I had created together.
I stood by the window, gazing out at the pack grounds, one hand resing protectively over my swollen belly. The kick beneath my palm brought a smile to my face–our little one was already strong, ready making their presence known.
“You shouldn’t be standing for so long,” Kaius’s voice came from behind me, warm and concerned.
I turned to face him, raising an eyebrow. “You know I can walk on my own right?”
He crossed the room to my side, his amber eyes soft with love as he tooped me into his arms despite my protest. “You are pregnant Elowen, you should be treated like a princess, so now stop arguing and let me take care of you.”
I wrapped my arms around his neck, unable to suppress my smile as he carried me to the bed. The way he doted on me these past months would have been suffocating if it wasn’t so endearing. The mighty Alpha King, feared throughout the territories, reduced to a fussing, overprotective soon–to–be father.
“I need to get dressed,” I said as he set me down gently on the edge of the bed.
He moved to the wardrobe, pulling out one of his shirts. “Here.”
stared at the oversized garment, laughing. “These are your clothes.
“Well I don’t think anything in there would fit,” he replied with a sheepish smile. “I need to get more clothes your size.”
“Are you calling me fat?” I narrowed my eyes in mock outrage.
“No.” His gaze traveled appreciatively over my changing body. “You are beautiful and those breasts keep getting deliciously bigger.”
“Kaius!” I felt heat rising to my cheeks despite myself.
He grinned, unrepentant. “What, I’m a guy, I can’t help it.”
As he helped me into the shirt, his touch lingered on my skin, sending pleasant shivers down my spine. Six months, and his effect on me hadn’t diminished in the slightest.
“I am enjoying this more than I should,” I admitted as he buttoned the shirt for me.
“Then enjoy it while it lasts.” He pressed a kiss to my forehead before helping me back to bed, propping pillows behind me so I could sit comfortably.
“No work today?” I asked as he settled beside me, his hand finding its way to my stomach as if drawn by a magnet.
“I’ve covered all the urgent business, now I can spend more time with you and my baby.” The tenderness in his voice when he said “my baby” made my heart swell.
I hesitated, uncertain how to broach the subject that had been on my mind lately. “Kaius… I wonder if you are planning on assigning a new bet someone to assist you.”
His expression shifted, a shadow passing over his features. I knew mentioning Frost’s position would be painful, but it had bee months. The pack needed structure, and Kaius needed support.
“No one could replace him,” he said quietly.

“I know.” I covered his hand with mine. “I’m not suggesting replacing him. Just… fulfilling a role that needs to be filled.
He nodded, acknowledging the wisdom in my words even if he was ready to act on them yet. Before he could respond further, a knock at the door interrupted
“It’s open,” I called.
One of the younger pack members entered, carrying a sealed letter. This just arrived for you, Luna.”
She handed me the envelope before departing with a respectful bow turned it over in my hands, recognizing my mother’s handwriting immediately.
“Of course I read it,” Kalus said before I could even ask, noting the broken seal.
“There’s this thing called privacy, you know.”
“Tell me you wouldn’t do the same.“.
“I won’t,” I insisted, though we both knew it was probably a lie.
“Read the letter already, it’s from your mother.”
I unfolded the paper, eagerly devouring my mother’s words. The wedding had been beautiful, she wrote. Gabriel made her happier than she’d thought possible at her age. They were considering traveling, seeing parts of the world they’d both missed while raising children and serving their respective packs. The joy in her words was palpable, bringing a wide smile to my face.
“If I knew letters could make you smile this wide, then I’ll send you one every single day for the rest of your life,” Kaius remarked, watching me.
That’s scary, Kaius.”
“I was aiming for romantic actually.”
I set the letter aside, suddenly overwhelmed with emotion. “Thank you, Kaius.”
“For what?” He looked genuinely puzzled.
“For… everything.” For forgiving me. For loving me despite everything we’d been through. For giving
chance at happiness.

“You are the one having the child, I should be thanking you.” He rose from the bed. “What do you want to eat?”
“Surprise me. I stretched, feeling the baby shift inside me.
“You know what? Spaghetti and meatballs would do the trick.”
“Your wish is my command.” He bent to kiss me once more before heading to the door. “Rest while I’m gone. Doctor’s orders.”
“Yes, Alpha,” I replied with a playful salute.

Speaking of the journey and its difficult moments, I want to acknowlede Frost. His fate was one of the hardest parts for me to write, and I truly share in the sadness of his loss. I grew to love him dearly as a character, and his sacrifice, while vital to the story and Katus’s path,
