Chapter 6
Pain jolted Nyra awake to find herself back at the Ashgrave estate.
Theron sat beside the bed, his eyes dark and dangerous as they bored into her. “What did you mean about leaving?”
Nyra’s heart jumped, but she forced her voice to sound hoarse and confused. “Leaving? What leaving? I had a fever-must’ve been talking crazy…”
Theron studied her for a long moment, then seemed to accept it and released her hand. “Why didn’t you tell me you were on your cycle? You could’ve died in
that water.”
Nyra managed a weak smile. “If throwing me in there made Delilah forgive you, it was worth not mentioning.”
Theron’s expression grew complicated. “Do you really love me that much?”
Nyra lowered her lashes.
She didn’t love him at all.
she just needed to protect the pack alliance until Sylvae returned. Then she could disappear forever.
The door suddenly swung open and Delilah walked in. “Theron, when are we leaving for that fishing trip?”
the noticed Nyra was awake and put on a surprised expression. “Sylvae! How are you feeling?”
Before Nyra could answer, Delilah continued with a sweet smile: “I was just upset earlier when I asked Theron to do that. I didn’t think he’d actually throw you n the lake. I’m so sorry about that.”
I heard you donated blood for me? Why don’t you come fishing with us? Consider it my way of making it up to you.”
Jyra started to refuse, but Delilah had already grabbed her hand. “Don’t say no! I already talked it over with Theron.”
heron shot her a look-a quiet warning: don’t ruin this.
Jyra could only nod.
In the luxury yacht, the ocean breeze carried salt and the distant scent of other territories.
Delilah stayed glued to Theron’s side the entire time, laughing as she made him feed her fruit, apply her sunscreen, even carrying her piggyback so she could et a better view of the horizon…
Jyra stood on the deck, quietly watching the endless water, as if none of it concerned her.
Intil Theron’s phone rang with urgent pack business and he stepped away to handle it. That’s when Delilah approached her.
Sometimes I really don’t get you,” Delilah said suddenly.
Vyra turned to look at her.
Delilah’s eyes narrowed. “Everyone says you’re crazy about Theron, that you’d do anything for him. But if you really loved your mate, wouldn’t you fight for lim?”
‘I framed you, and you said nothing. He threw you into freezing water-you still didn’t react. Even now. He’s all over me, and you’re just standing there…”
She leaned closer, lowering her voice, “Do you actually love him at all?”
Nyra’s lips curved slightly. Delilah’s instincts were right-she didn’t love Theron one bit.
Before she could answer, a massive wave crashed over the yacht!
“Ahhh-!”
Both she-wolves lost their footing and tumbled into the churning ocean!
The icy water swallowed them instantly. The yacht’s metal edge sliced long gashes across their arms, blood immediately spreading in red clouds through the
water.
“Pack members overboard! Two in the water! Get the rescue team!”
Chaos erupted on deck as divers plunged in, but they surfaced quickly with grim expressions. “Alpha, the blood’s gonna draw sharks fast! And the current separated them-we can only save one at a time!”
Theron’s face went white, searching the water frantically.
On one side, Delilah was struggling desperately to stay afloat. On the other, Nyra was being pulled further away by the waves…
“Save Delilah first!” The words tore from his throat.
Nyra heard his choice as she choked down another mouthful of salt water.
She watched the rescue diver swim toward Delilah, saw the panic on Theron’s face, and smiled bitterly as her eyes drifted closed.
She should have known.
In his heart, she would always be the expendable one.
Seawater filled her lungs as consciousness slipped away.
Through the haze, she saw a dark shape moving fast toward her.
Shark!
Agony exploded through her leg as her final thought was of the brilliant blue ocean slowly turning red with her blood…
