Chapter 6
But when Hannah swiped the card again, the same payment failed message appeared.
The organizer tested the machine using his other cards, and each time, the payment went through successfully.
That confirmed it–there was nothing wrong with the card machine.
“Ms. Leigh, our card terminal is functioning properly. Your card is genuine, but it simply has no available funds.”
Hannah frowned and turned to glare at me. I returned her look with a calm, provocative smile.
She muttered,
“Wait a minute. I need to make a call and figure out what’s going on.‘
She ran out with her phone.
Five minutes later, Hannah came back, her face pale. As soon as she saw me, she rushed
over.
“Vivian, why did you transfer money to scammers and freeze your bank card?!”
I gave her a faint smile and answered casually,
“I didn’t know it was a scammer. He said if I didn’t transfer the money, I’d go to jail. I panicked and wired it over. Later, the police told me I’d been scammed. I was really heartbroken.”
Eric sneered and scoffed.
“Vivian, are you dumb? You actually believed that crap? You’ve got pig brains.”
I shot him a sharp look and replied coldly,
“What’s it to you? It’s my money. Can’t I do what I want with it? Also, why do you know about this? And Hannah, that black card in your hand–it looks awfully familiar.”
Hannah trembled, clearly panicked. She quickly clutched the black card tightly and shoved it into her bag.
“All black cards look the same, don’t they? There’s nothing familiar about this one. Vivian, you should ask the police to unfreeze your card. Otherwise, it’ll be so inconvenient for you.”
I shook my head.
“No need. I’m afraid I’ll get scammed again. Besides, I’ve got plenty of cards. Freezing one doesn’t bother me at all.”
Hannah’s eyes reddened with frustration. Eric, losing his temper, shouted at me,
“Vivian, don’t be so heartless! Hanhan’s only looking out for you, and yet you keep wounding her again and again. Do you even have a conscience?”
I snorted and rolled my eyes.

“Did I ask her to care about me? You two are way too nosy.”
A classmate nearby chimed in to comfort Hannah.
“Hanhan, ignore her. Vivian’s ungrateful. You should just pay for those ten items so we can keep bidding. Stop wasting time on her.”
That set Hannah off, and she snapped,
“Why are you rushing me? If you’re so eager, why don’t you pay for it yourself?”
The classmate’s face immediately soured. Being humiliated by Hannah in public bruised his ego badly.
“Why are you yelling at me, Hannah? I was only trying to help! And weren’t you the one who invited us here?”
Realizing she had gone too far, Hannah’s tone softened, and her eyes turned misty.
“I’m sorry, I got carried away. It’s just that Vivian’s words really hurt me… I wasn’t trying to lash out at you.”
Eric quickly pulled Hannah into his arms, gently comforting her.
“Hanhan, don’t be upset. None of this is your fault. Vivian came here today just to cause trouble for you.”
Hannah leaned pitifully against his chest.
“But if Vivian won’t unfreeze her card, what if it makes her life harder later on? I can’t bear
that.”
Eric sighed deeply.
“Hanhan, you’re just too kind.”
