Chapter 2
After they left, the office lights went out quickly.
Moonlight bounced off the glass windows, showing my reflection – short hair and this fancy dress, looking absolutely ridiculous.
Years ago, Silas came to our school to pick someone for his scholarship program.
All us broke kids stood in a line, and he tilted his chin up, pointing straight at me.
“You. I like that look in your eyes.”
My classmates all said I’d hit the jackpot.
But I just stood there, totally lost, taking the check his assistant handed me. The number of zeros was insane.
Back then, I couldn’t even afford a five–dollar lunch. I’d make do with bread and water.
“Thank you, I’ll pay you back someday…”
Before I could even finish, he was already climbing into his Cullinan.
I busted my ass studying, got into his company after graduation.
Worked fifteen–hour days just to hear him say, “Good job, Ms. Hale.”
I knew he didn’t recognize me.
He casually mentioned once that I looked good with short hair, so I cut off ten years of long hair that same night.
Threw on sharp business suits, forgot I was even a woman, drinking shot for shot with clients at business dinners.
Silas finally started noticing me.
“Ms. Hale, you remind me of someone.”
“Same fire in your eyes.I dig that.”
I was an idiot, mistaking casual approyal for love, killing myself just to stand beside him.
Until the company Christmas party, during truth or dare, everyone kept bugging Silas about what kind of woman he
liked.
His tipsy eyes glanced over at me with this half–smile.
“Someone like Ms. Hale wouldn’t be bad.”
My brain just exploded..

Chapter 2
In all the cheering and chaos, before I knew what I was doing. I’d kissed him.
After that crazy night, Silas married me.
I thought after all these years, I’d finally warmed his heart.
Turns out he just saw me as a teammate, a colleague – anything but his wife.
I didn’t go back to our villa. Instead, I went to the old neighborhood.
The moment I opened the door, a slap hit me so hard I almost fell over.
Mom’s eyes were ice cold, looking at me like I was worse than a stranger.
“You’ve got some balls showing up here.”
“I heard you’re having problems with Silas?”
I’d been with Silas for ten years.
Closed deal after deal for him, but to my parents, I was just his free housekeeper.
“Go apologize right now! Your brother’s still waiting for him to hook him up with a job!”
I held my bleeding lip, barely getting the words out.
“If he wants work, I can help arrange something…”
Before I could finish, Mom let out this mocking laugh.
“You? A housewife living off your husband, and you’re talking big?”
“If it wasn’t for him, you couldn’t even finish school! Stop pretending you’re some hotshot!”
“Get back there and apologize!”
She shoved me out and slammed the door.
Standing in the dark, I laughed bitterly, tears tasting like salt and regret.
A scholarship student and a billionaire – even my own parents thought I didn’t match him.
During family gatherings, when Dad got drunk, he’d brag about how I “knew how to land a rich guy in bed.”
Then he’d spit and say I was useless- married to a suggar daddy but still let my parents and little brother live in
this shithole.
I stumbled down the stairs in the dark when a car screeched to a stop in front of me.
The license plate had familiar. My heart jumped.

Chapter 2
The window rolled down slowly, but it was just the driver’s face.
Crushing disappointment hit me like the cold night air. The driver’s expression was just as cold as Silas’s.
“Ma’am, Mr. Vasker sent me to pick you up.He said when you’re done acting out, you should come home.”
