Chapter 3
Chapter 3
So he’d deliberately told my parents, just to teach me a lesson.
He was used to looking down on me from his throne, totally convinced I couldn’t survive without him.
Too bad he still didn’t get who I really was.
I sat in the back seat and made a call without giving a damn who was listening.
“That North project -you interested?”
After I hung up, I caught those sharp eyes watching me in the rearview mirror.
I ignored him and rolled down the window for some freash air.
I should’ve seen Anya coming from a mile away.
She’d been testing my limits step by step, making her moves on Silas right under my nose.
I was so sure he wouldn’t fall for some shallow little bitch like her. What a fucking joke!
By the time I woke up, my husband had become someone else’s property.
Seven days?
I smiled bitterly.
Why not make it forever?
My phone buzzed with a text from Silas.
The photo showed rumpled sheets, black stockings carelessly draped over the bedside lamp I’d carefully picked out.
The message followed right after.
“Bring back some of Andy’s honey cakes.”
It felt like someone had punched me in the chest.
When I walked into our house empty–handed, Silas’s face went dark the second he saw me.
“Didn’t Anya ask you to bring honey cakes?”
I just stared at him.
Not him. Anya.
The next second, Anya bounced out from behind him, waving her phone around like she’d won the lottery.

“Oops, sorry Ms. Hale! I sent that text. We had quite the… workout earlier, and now I’m totally starving.”
She was pouting with those swollen, glossy lips, and I could just picture what they’d been doing.
Silas ruffled her hair affectionately.
“You’re being a little dictator. Since when does exclusive access include my phone?”
My heart felt like it was being shredded.
I let out a cold laugh, stepped forward, and slapped Anya hard across the face.
“Who said you could come into my house!”
Silas grabbed my wrist so tight I thought he might break it.
“Have you lost your fucking mind? It’s right there in black and white – she has exclusive access to me for seven days. Look at the damn contract!”
“This house is hers to use too.”
He shoved me away so hard I hit the floor.
“Apologize to her! Now!”
A piece of paper fluttered down.
“Exclusive Access Agreement” – I couldn’t help but laugh.
Silas, who never showed mercy to competitors.
Silas, who made his legal team read every contract ten times.
Had actually signed this ridiculous piece of shit.
“No fucking way!”
My voice was practically a scream, all my rage boiling over.
Anya’s eyes filled with tears, her face going pale as paper.
“It’s all my fault. I was so stupid, thinking I could use my bonus to buy Silas’s time.”
“I’ll leave right now…”
She took a step, and before she even got close to me, she let out this dramatic gasp and fell forward.
Her knees hit the floor and immediately started bruising.
She looked up at me with tears in her eyes.

“Ms. Hale, I promised I’d leave. Why did you have to trip me?”
Silas’s face went tight with concern as he scooped her up..
“Cressida, you’ve crossed the line.”
“Anya’s staying here for the next few days. She gets the master bedroom.”
“She likes her eggs over easy for breakfast – not too runny, not too firm.”
“Consider it your apology.”
He said it so casually, like he was talking about the weather.
The fresh burn on my hand suddenly felt like it was on fire.
He loved pan–fried fish. I’d burned myself countless times learning to get the heat just right, practiced until hot oil stopped making me flinch. Now I was supposed to use those skills to make perfect eggs for another woman.
Late that night, the bed dipped beside me.
Warm breath tickled my neck, carrying some unfamiliar gardenia scent that made my head pound.
“Cressida, what’s gotten into you? It’s just seven days. Can’t you just deal with it?”
“What if I don’t want?”
I hit the light switch, and the sudden brightness caught the surprise in his eyes.
“Silas, let’s get divorced.”
Silas froze, like he hadn’t heard me right.
A few seconds later, the disbelief on his face turned into this mocking smile.
“Divorced? Are you out of your goddamn mind?Without me, you’ve got nothing!”
