Chapter 6
In the elevator, I slid down the wall and collapsed on the floor, crying until I couldn’t feel anything anymore.
For my pathetic past, for ten wasted years.
For a decade, I’d lost myself completely for Silas.
I used to love long hair, loved wearing dresses, loved getting all dolled up every day.
I was never the ball–busting bitch they all made me out to be.
But what did any of it get me?
As the elevator dropped, my scattered thoughts started clearing up.
This was the last time I’d ever cry over Silas Vasker.
When the doors opened, the woman in the mirror had red eyes but a steel gaze.
A man was leaning against a Maybach, looking at me with this mocking smile.
“Cressida Hale, please don’t tell me you were just crying up there.”
That’s not the woman I know.”
Killian Drake was Vasker Corp’s biggest rival in the city.
Back in Malen during the evacuation, he was the one who contacted the embassy, got me on the last flight home. Without him, I would’ve been fucked.
Over the years, I’d handled most of Vasker’s international deals. Killian and I fought like hell in public, but privately, we got each other.
He was always a smartass, but I knew that was just his armor.
I forced a smile.
“Don’t worry. Won’t happen again.”
I was about to get in the car when the elevator doors opened again.
Silas came rushing out.
“Cressida, where the hell are you going?”
I didn’t even turn around.
“Silas, we’re divorced. If you give a shit, go look at those papers. And don’t worry – I don’t want a dime of your

money.”
He started to say something, but the car door was already closed.
Through the window, I caught the shock in his eyes.
But this time, I didn’t cave. I didn’t look back.
Silas stood on the sidewalk, watching Cressida climb into another guy’s car.
Something twisted in his gut.
He recognized the guy immediately – his biggest rival, Killian Drake.
How the fuck did Cressida end up with him?
He stumbled back to his office in a daze.
Suddenly remembering what Cressida had said, he realized there really was a divorce agreement mixed in with the papers he’d signed.
The first clause hit him like a punch to the face.
Wife waives all assets and cash, voluntarily leaves with nothing.“*
His mind was spinning.
Cressida would really rather walk away with nothing than stay with him?
Had she been planning this all along?
Anya’s sweet voice cut through his thoughts.
“Silas, now that Ms. Hale’s gone, about that VP announcement you promised…”
Like always, she leaned over, pressing her body against his arm.
All he had to do was look up and he’d get an eyeful.
But he just shoved her away, annoyed.
“Are you seriously this eager?”
“Cressida just fucking divorced me and all you care about is your goddamn promotion?”
Anya jumped back, startled by his tone.
Realizing he’d lost it, Silas rubbed his temples tiredly.
