Meanwhile, after that wedding, Ethan fell seriously ill and sank into depression.

Apart from doctors and nurses, only Sophie came by regularly to take care of his daily needs.[]

On Ethan’s birthday, Sophie wheeled in a cake. 

Ethan, who hadn’t spoken in over ten days, finally looked

“Who sent this?” 

“Your… your grandmother.“]

“Get it out of here. I don’t want to see it!” 

Sophie didn’t understand why the relationship between grandmother and grandson had become like this.

But she felt deeply grateful to the old lady, so at this moment she couldn’t help but put in a few good words for her.

But Ethan wouldn’t listen at all. Instead, he became more and more agitated, grabbing a glass and smashing the cake to the floor. 

Sophie’s emotions, which had been bottled up for so long, finally exploded in that moment.]

She kept shaking her head, crying so hard she could barely breathe.

Sophie was worried about his health and quickly chased after him. The two of them, one in front of the other, reached the stairwell where she grabbed his hand and pleaded desperately.

“You’re still not well. Please go back and rest, okay? I’m begging you.“[]

Without a second thought, Ethan shook off her hand.

Losing her balance, Sophie tumbled straight down the stairs. 

She screamed as she rolled down, her face full of terror, desperately trying to protect her belly, but blood still poured out.

Sharp pain shot through her abdomen. She felt like she was being torn apart, with only one thought left in her mind–save this baby.

She reached out her blood–stained hand toward Ethan on the landing above, crying out silently for help.

Begging him to save their child.] 

Seeing Sophie fall, panic flashed across Ethan’s face first, and he instinctively took a few steps down toward her.[]

But after hearing her plea for help, he stopped in his tracks.[] 

The baby, their baby.

If she miscarried here, wouldn’t that mean he could finally cut ties with Sophie completely? Grandma wouldn’t be able to pressure him anymore either.[] 

And the only thing standing between him and Lily would be gone forever. Maybe then he could win her back?
