Chapter 46: Confessions to Jordyn
Cassandra’s POV
Stella and Jordyn’s project manager left the board room, leaving fordyn and I alone.
“What is it, Cassandra?” Jordyn asked, concern in his eyes. “Is everything okay?”
I hesitated, wondering how much I should tell him. I wasn’t even sure if Ellie was actually cheating on Jordyn, although she threatened me, warning me not to say anything, so it sure seemed like it.
But still.
Was this really my place? Was I really the one who should be telling Jordyn that his future wife might be a cheating whore? I was worried that it might affect our collaboration, yes. If Ellie was feeding her little boy toy from Sterling Silver information about Jordyn’s company, it could have negative consequences for Jordyn’s company, and in turn, for ours.
That wasn’t my only concern, though. I felt bad for Jordyn. Sure, he’d done the exact same thing to me, and it had hurt like hell. And for awhile, I’d really hated him. I’d have given anything to hurt him the way he hurt me.
But I didn’t hate him anymore. I didn’t know how I felt about him it was complicated – but I knew I didn’t want to see him get hurt.
This could be really bad for him. He risked being humiliated if he found out from someone else. Especially if Ellie did something to hurt his company.
“Cassandra?” Jordyn asked again, walking towards me.
I took a deep breath. “I’d like to advise you to…“I paused, thinking of how to word this subtly… “you should pay close attention to those around you. I really hope there won’t be any issue with this project, especially in regards to…confidentiality.” I emphasized the last word.
I didn’t feel comfortable coming right out and saying Ellie’s name. But I wondered if that warning had been a bit too subtle.
“What the hell are you talking about, Cassandra?” Jordyn snapped at me. He looked angry, his brows furrowed. “Are you questioning my professional competence?”
“No,” I said.
Shit. He’d completely misinterpreted my words. He thought I was attacking his professional integrity.
“Who are you to question me about ethics and confidentiality?” he seethed.
Wait a minute here. Now he was attacking me?
I got my back up. “I wasn’t, Mr. Smith,” I said. “I was only suggesting that you keep a close eye on SOME of the people you’re working with. I might only be an assistant, but I don’t want anything, or anyone, to jeopardize this fashion show,” I defended myself.
“Well I suggest you leave the heavy lifting to the executives,” he hissed. “You’re out of line. Why don’t you make yourself useful and fetch someone a coffee.”
“Excuse me?”
What the actual fuck? He was being so derisive. Sure, he thought I was an assistant. But that didn’t give him the right to be so derogatory. So what if I was an assistant? It didn’t make me ‘less than‘.
I was shocked by how mean he was being. And I was trying to HELP him.
“I’m sorry,” he said immediately. “I shouldn’t have said that. I didn’t mean it. I’m just…I have a lot on my mind i don’t understand why you’re questioning my ability to do my job.”
I opened my mouth to reply, but he looked so frazzled.

“It’s fine, I sighed. “Just be careful who you trust. That’s all”
“What are you trying to say?” he asked.
I hesitated. Should I just blurt it out? Should I just tell him, right then and there and be done with it?
But just then, I saw Ellie approaching from down the hallway, so I decided to drop the subject.
“Nevermind,” I said, turning to leave. “I shouldn’t have said anything. Forget about it.”

“Is this about Ellie?” he asked. I froze. If I was going to tell him, now was the time. I saw Ellie duck into an office. I had time. I could tell him.
But why? What was the point? To spare him the humillation of finding out from someone else? Why was I so invested in this? It was highly unlikely Ellie’s relationship with the executive from Sterling Silver would impact OUR company.
No.
I didn’t want to tell him after all.
“It’s not,” I said. “It has nothing to do with Ellie. In fact, I wish you and Ellie all the happiness in the world. I sincerely hope you have a wonderful marriage.”
Telling Jordyn what I’d seen would be a mistake. If Ellie truly loved Jordyn, she wouldn’t.be cheating on him. So maybe she wasn’t. Maybe I had misinterpreted the situation. And if she was cheating, well, he’d find out eventually, right?
This wasn’t my circus. Jordyn’s personal life was none of my business. I shouldn’t have gotten involved.
I reached for the door but Jordyn stopped me.
“Marriage?” Jordyn asked. “You know about our engagement? How? I didn’t even hear about it until a few days ago.
What?
I turned back to face him. He looked genuinely confused.
“I mean, I’m not even sure yet if I want to be engaged. It feels too soon.”
I looked at him, shocked. He didn’t even know if he WANTED to be engaged? How was that possible? As far as Ellie was concerned, the wedding was right around the corner. I wasn’t the only one she’d told.
“How did you hear about it?” he asked, his eyes searching my face. “The engagement.”
“Ellie ordered an engagement dress from Hot House Flower,” I told him. There was no point keeping it from him,
“She what?” He looked positively perplexed now. I couldn’t believe this? Was he really that clueless?
“The dress is already done,” I continued. “It was delivered to her days ago. Did you…do you really not know anything about it?”
