All the reporters, sensing a bombshell story, immediately aimed their cameras at my expression before continuing to question the team members.
“Could you share the reason behind your request for a coaching change?”
“Is it because Coach Emma made some unreasonable demands?”
The athletes fell silent for a moment before responding.
“She… has character issues.”
“Exactly, I was born to swim. Does she really think she’s the one who got us this far?”
The speaker was Liam. Back then, though he loved swimming, his family opposed it due to financial problems. I was the one who discovered his talent and even paid out of my own pocket for his training.
Hearing these words, I felt nothing but cold disappointment. Especially seeing Ryan’s disgusted expression–I felt like I’d been thrown into an ice cellar.
Facing the reporters‘ persistent questions, Ryan responded coolly:
“Coach Emma’s training methods are no longer suitable for us.”
The reporters continued their curious probing. “We heard you’re dating the girl who was wiping your sweat before the race. Is that true?”
Ryan’s gaze shifted to me, then he slowly nodded. “Yes.”
He had never publicly acknowledged our relationship in front of outsiders, except to the team members.
I found it ironic. While the team was still being interviewed, Isla quietly approached me.
“You must be regretting this now, right? You’ve offended Ryan–he’ll never acknowledge you again.” Her tone carried a hint of smugness.
I ignored her, but she deliberately moved a few steps closer to me.
Then, suddenly, she grabbed my hand. Before I could react, she threw herself backward, tumbling into the pool.
“Ahh-”
“Emma, why are you doing this to me?”
In that instant, everyone turned to look.
Isla’s lips curved in a barely concealed smile as Ryan quickly pushed through the crowd, leaped into the water, and pulled her out. He glared at me furiously. “Emma, what the hell is wrong with you?”
“I didn’t do it.” I paused, then decided to explain. “There are cameras here with 360–degree coverage and no blind spots. You can check the footage frame by frame.”
Ryan held Isla protectively in his arms, completely deaf to my words.
“If you keep causing trouble like this, I’m seriously going to request a coaching change from upper management!”
I almost couldn’t suppress my laughter. Ryan actually thought he had a future ahead of him.
Everyone gathered around us now. Even fans/stared at me with disapproval, while the athletes I had personally trained looked at me with complete disdain.
“See? I told you Coach Emma has character problems. She always targets young women.”
“If it weren’t for her, we could probably swim even faster.”
Ryan looked at me with a dark expression. “Apologize.”

Chapter 3
Isla sobbed as she hid in his embrace.
Reporters shoved microphones in my face, demanding explanations.
“Your team members are requesting a coaching change? Could you tell us why you don’t get along?”
“Coach Emma, do you really have character issues?”
I could clearly sense the reporters‘ hostility toward me.
Just as I was considering my response, Ryan suddenly barked:
“Didn’t you hear me? I told you to apologize to Isla!”
“And starting today, you’re not qualified to coach our mixed relay team anymore!”
I finally reached my breaking point. I pulled out my phone, requested the security footage, and projected it frame by frame on the big screen.
The footage clearly showed Isla grabbing my hand and throwing herself backward.
Ryan’s pupils dilated instantly. The crowd erupted in shock.
I looked down at Ryan’s mortified expression and said, word by word:
“I voluntarily resign from my position as your coach. From this day forward, I, Emma, have nothing to do with any of you.”
