Chapter 32

This was the first time Hayden Grayson had ever seen Kellan Carter so serious. He thought for a moment, and a look of understanding dawned on his face.
Early the next morning, Kellan was waiting in the living room for the doctor’s arrival.
Finally, he heard a commotion outside. Just as he was about to get up, he saw two figures walking in, arm in arm.
“Kyle, this is my first time here. You’re so good to me.”
“Of course. We’re getting married. My home is your home.”
“I wasn’t aware Riverbay Manor had a new owner.”
Kellan’s voice was laced with ice, and Kyle froze on the spot.
The sheer pressure from Kellan’s presence rooted him to the floor, a primal fear creeping up his spine.
“Ke… Kellan.”
Kyle forced a smile and looked toward the sound of the voice, meeting a pair of frigid eyes that sent a shiver through him. He watched as Kellan’s lips curled into a cold smirk.
“You didn’t answer my question, Kyle. When did this manor become yours? Funny. I don’t remember signing it over.”
A cold sweat broke out on Kyle’s back. He shot a resentful glare at Rosie before forcing a placating smile. “What are you talking about, Kellan? Riverbay Manor has always been your private property. It was just a slip of the tongue.”
“Good. Be more careful in the future. Someone might get the wrong idea and think you’re trying to steal my inheritance.”
Kyle’s smile became even more strained. “You’re joking, Kellan,” he said, his voice hollow..
Rosie pouted, but before she could say anything, Kyle gripped her wrist tightly.
A yelp of pain escaped her lips, and she looked up at him, wounded. He wasn’t even looking at her. She had no choice but to pretend nothing had happened and take a seat on the sofa.
A chill emanated from Kellan, filling the room. Rosie rubbed her arms, her brow furrowed.
Just as a complaint was about to spill from her lips, an androgynous voice came from the entryway, startling her.
“I’m not late, am I?”
With the sound of that voice, Rosie blurted out, “What is that voice? It’s hideous.
Kellan, who had been rising from his seat, froze for a split second. The temperature in the room dropped even further.
Before he could unleash his anger, a figure wearing a Bauta mask appeared in the doorway,
The moment he saw them, all the ice in Kellan’s demeanor melted away, like an instant spring thaw,

Ignoring the other two in the room, Kellan strode quickly toward the figure. “Not at all. My father is upstairs.”
Standing before the Ghost Doctor, Kellan’s tense expression finally relaxed.
The person before him had a pleasant scent, the only thing that could ever truly calm his thoughts.
Zina nodded and glanced inside, only to see the two people she least wanted to see.
To make matters worse, Rosie was staring right at her.
They had spent too much time together. Zina worried Rosie might recognize her. “I’ll go upstairs and take a look,” she said, her voice intentionally distorted.
The strange, genderless tone made Rosie wrinkle her nose again. She leaned close to Kyle’s ear and whispered, “Who is this person? What’s with that voice? It sounds like some kind of freak”
