She had never felt such hopelessness and couldn’t truly imagine the gardener’s pain.
After a few seconds of silence, Zina pulled a card from her pocket
“There’s no pin. The money in here is more than enough for you. Also, where is your son’s hospital? I can go take a look when I have time.”
The gardener was stunned. He didn’t dare take the card, just waved his hands frantically. “L… I can’t. I’ve wronged you. I deserve to be punished…
He knelt, bowing his head low to the ground.
“Get up,” Kellan finally said.
Zina sighed and moved to help him, but the gardener flinched back. “I… I’ll get your clothes dirty”
“This card isn’t a gift,” Zina said firmly. “I need you to keep an eye on Kyle’s every move and report anything he does to me immediately. This is a transaction. Understand?”
“I… I understand.” The gardener nodded blankly, and before he could react, the card was pressed into his hand.
He was still in a daze as he left the room, unable to process what had just happened.
He was still alive. He had survived an encounter with a man known for his cold ruthlessness.
Looking up at the sun, the reality of it finally began to sink in.
Back in the room, a small smile played on Kellan’s lips. His voice was laced with a teasing tone.
“I never knew the famous Doctor had such a bleeding heart.”
“Even you must understand that you don’t kick a man when he’s down, Mr. Carter.
Kellan stared at the Bauta mask, a flicker of deep interest in his eyes.
Zina ignored him and walked to the bed to administer the needles to the man lying there.
Half an hour later, she stood up.
There. He should wake up shortly.”
“Are you sure?” Kellan asked, skeptical. He remembered how grim Hayden had been yesterday, insisting the old man. wouldn’t wake up for a long time.
But the woman before him just shrugged. “If you don’t believe me, wait and see. But I’m leaving now.”
Zina genuinely didn’t want to stay. The manor gave her an uneasy feeling.
Besides, Rosie could be back any minute.

The longer she stayed, the greater the chance of Rosie recognizing her.

She wouldn’t put herself in that kind of danger.
Downstairs, Zina saw the living room was empty and breathed a sigh of relief.
Just as she was about to leave, she ran right into Rosie, who was walking in from outside.
“Honestly, there was nothing in the garden. I don’t know what those people were thinking. You’d think they’d never seen a few roses before, dragging me out there to look.”
Rosie grumbled as she walked.
She looked up, saw the Bauta mask, and jumped back, her face pale.
When she recovered, she saw the masked figure trying to sidestep her and leave. On instinct, Rosie grabbed the person’s
arm.
Zina took a deep breath, stopped, and turned to face her calmly.
s there something I can help you with, miss? If not, I need to be going
“Kyle,” Rosie whined, looking up with a pout that made Kyle’s heart ache for her. “Is everyone on your family’s staff this arrogant?”
Kyle’s expression instantly turned cold. “You. Come over here and check on me. I want to see if I can still give orders to the staff in this house.”
Zina had no intention of engaging. She turned to leave.
The next second, a large hand reached for her. On pure instinct, Zina spun around, grabbed the arm, and sent the person behind her flying over her shoulder and crashing to the floor.
A raw, pained scream tore through the hall.
