Chapter 84
No sooner had Zina stepped out of the Base than she received a call from the police station.
“Is this Ms. Sinclair? We’ve uncovered some new evidence here. Could you come take a look?”
“Sure,” Zina replied.
Hanging up the phone, she told Chris, “It’s that police officer from before.”
“Liam Foster! He’s actually quite an upright guy.”
After a brief pause, Chris offered his assessment.
Zina gave a slight nod, committing the name to memory.
Upon entering the police station, she immediately spotted Liam waiting in the lobby.
“Ms.
“Ms. Sinclair, Mr. Yeast, glad you could make it.”
Liam greeted them. After the brief exchange, his expression grew solemn
“Iris has already implicated the group behind her. We’ve called you both in today for two reasons: first, to update you on the progress of the case; second, to take your statements. Mr. Yeast, if you could provide us with the dashcam footage, that would be extremely helpful.”
“No problem at all, Chris replied.
Zina gave Chris a look. He quickly got it and left to pull up the dashcam footage.
Liam gladly said, “Please have a seat, Ms. Sinclair. As for Iris, it turns out there’s some connection between her and you, which is why we’ve asked you to come in.
“According to her confession, she specifically targeted your car for an insurance scam. Do you know her?”
“I don’t know her,” Zina replied, frowning as she eyed Liam with visible confusion.
Liam looked surprised, but quickly regained his composure and continued, “According to Iris‘ confession, her handler gave her your license plate number and told her that the people in your car were wealthy and easy targets. She staked out the area for over a month before finally spotting you, and then she couldn’t wait to pull off the scam.”
“Is that so?” Zina’s brow remained furrowed, her thoughts unreadable. “Still, I genuinely don’t know her.”
“Alright then,” Liam conceded.
He realized there was no point in pressing her further, considering her utterly bewildered look.
Just then, Chris walked over and handed the dashcam footage to Liam.
Liam’s eyes lit up with excitement as he finished reviewing the footage. “This is it!”
A junior officer approached Liam, looking troubled. “Mr. Foster, the suspect is demanding to see Ms. Sinclair, We can’t hold

“What should we do?”
Liam glanced at Zina. Before he could ask, she beat him to it.
“Then I’d like to see Iris if possible,” she said.
Liam deliberated briefly, his furrowed brow relaxing. Then he gave a slight nod.
“Alright, escort Ms. Sinclair in.”
Zina followed the officer through the door, and an icy chill immediately assaulted her senses.
After a full day in custody, Iris sat with disheveled hair and vacant
eyes.
She snapped her head up at the sound of the door opening. When she recognized who it was, she let out a sharp, maniacal laugh.
“Zina.” Iris cackled, “do you have any idea why I wanted to see you?
“You know Rosie, don’t you?”
Zina sat down across from her, raising an eyebrow slightly. “Tm curious–just how much did Rosie tell you about me? I’m guessing it wasn’t much. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have dared to mess with me.”
Iris’s smile froze, and she stared at Zina in terror.
She stammered, “How could you possibly…”
“What exactly did you want to say to me?” Zina asked sharply.
“Surely you didn’t ask to see me just to say these few words?”
Iris pleaded, “I know you and Rosie are at odds. Get me out of here, and I’ll tell you some secrets–secrets only the Sinclair family would know.”
She stared up at Zina with barely contained excitement. Her fists were clenched so tightly her knuckles whitened, yet she still couldn’t stop her whole body from trembling.
