Kellan’s eyes flickered with a hint of surprise as he looked ahead. Soon, he steadied his gaze, a flicker of interest dancing in his eyes. “Please go on, Doctor,” he said.
The gentleman continued, “There’s indeed a personal grudge between Kyle and me, though I’m afraid I can’t g Just think of it as me not being able to stand him.
go into details.
“I remember you said before that you wanted to join the Carter Corporation. By now, you should have a general idea about the company, right?”
“Doctor, you seem exceptionally well–informed about the Carter family affairs” Kellan idly swirled the glass before him. savoring the lingering sweetness on his palate, touched with a hint of refreshing lightness.
“Doctor, I can certainly let you take all your frustration out on Kyle–but perhaps you should tell me a little something about yourself first?” said Kellan.
“I made it clear on day one–don’t even think about prying into my affairs,” she said. Zina’s gaze remained calm, yet her voice carried an irresistible air of authority. Zina’s gaze remained calm, yet her voice carried an irresistible air of authority.
Kellan shrugged it off, finally dropping the subject and moving on to something else.
He said, “Kyle’s from the second branch of the family. He’s been fed some pretty twisted ideas since he was a kid. Not only does he hate me, but he’s also got issues with our father. You must have already noticed that.
“When I was overseas, Kyle never missed a chance to trip me up. That’s why he’s all worked up now that I’m back. I know he’s teamed up with some overseas organization, but I honestly have no idea what exactly is going on between them.”
He continued, “Doctor, since you’ve asked about Kyle, you must know he’s no saint
“After your encounters at the villa, he’s already formed quite a strong opinion of you. We’re in the same boat now–working with me won’t do you any harm. In fact, I could be your strongest backing”
As he finished, Kellan cocked an eyebrow, his gaze intently fixed on Zina.
Zina pursed her lips and looked up at Kellan. “So you’ve been scheming against me all along, right? But what I can’t figure out is if you’re capable of taking down Kyle, why go through all this trouble to drag me into it?”
Even with a mask covering her face, Kellan could still sense the burning curiosity in Zina’s eyes.
Kellan looked at Zina and said sincerely, “Because I believe you’re the perfect partner for me. I can offer you everything you desire. Why not join me?”
Kellan stretched out his hand, his palm lying open before her. Yet, for a brief moment, Zina hesitated.
Not sure if it was the allure of Kellan’s eyes or something else, Zina finally sighed deeply, lowered her gaze slightly, and replied indifferently, “Fine”
Upon feeling the warmth of their joined hands, a slow smile spread across Kellan’s lips.
Kellan said, “Here’s to our partnership.”

Zina replied simply, “Likewise.”
As night fell. Zina leaned against the headboard, the day’s events still haunting her thoughts, draining her of all energy and leaving her unable to focus on anything else.
Zina knew Kellan’s scheme was clearly no real threat to her, yet at that moment, she genuinely let her guard down.
This isn’t like me at all. Since when did I become so soft? Zina wondered.
A sleepless night was inevitable. Zina tossed and turned, haunted by relentless nightmares.
