Chapter 95

It was Zina who had just performed the surgery. But compared to when she first entered, she now looked completely drained of energy, as if all her strength had been sapped, barely able to walk.
“How are you feeling?” Wade hurried over, his face full of concern, reaching out to steady Zirla.
Zina finally managed to turn her head, looking weakly at Miles. “The surgery was a success. But don’t go in yet–let Cain rest for a bit,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Successful?” Wade’s hand slipped in shock as he blurted out.
Zina didn’t notice and stumbled violently, almost falling.
Inch by inch, she lifted her head, her expression flustered, a flash of confusion in her eyes
“Um, sorry, I–I didn’t mean to,” Wade murmured.
The moment she let go, her gaze met Miles’s–she caught his slightly averted eyes and a face flushed deep red.
However, Miles turned away, murmuring in an almost inaudible voice, “It’s fine. When can I go in to see Cain?”
Just wait another ten minutes. It should be about done by then,” Zina said, pausing for a moment before adding, “But lately, you need to keep Cain calm. There must be no more drastic ups and downs for him.”
Miles looked up in astonishment, a blank confusion spreading across his eyes. “How do you know that?” he asked.
“I’m a doctor, Zina replied. She twitched the corner of her mouth and gave up on continuing the conversation with Miles.
Just then, Wade came to his senses. He pushed past Miles directly, fixed his eager gaze on Zina, and said, “Come on. I have something to ask you.”
He couldn’t even be sure he could perform a surgery alone. It seems Zina has improved so much–far more than when I first met her, he thought to himself.
For a moment, a flood of emotions surged in Wade’s heart. After all these years, it felt like he was the only one who’d stayed. stuck in place.
The poignancy of the thought made Wade grip tighter. He half–dragged, half–pulled Zina to the side.
Zina curled her lip and couldn’t help rolling her eyes. “Okay, let’s make this quick. I need to check on Cain later.”
Wade hesitated, raking his hands through his hair roughly. “What level have you reached now? I keep feeling like you’ve long surpassed me.
“No, to be precise, your medical skills were probably already better than mine the first time we met.”
Speaking of this, Wade felt even more inferior, but he forced himself to keep going. “Can you do me a favor?
“I need to go to Springvale in the next two days, but I’m worried my skills aren’t good enough. I want to take you with me.”
“I’m tied up these two days–wait, where are you going? Springvale?” Zina’s first instinct was to refuse, but she suddenly

froze.
She watched as Wade nodded. Zina frowned, hesitated for a long time, then sighed, “Fine. When are we leaving? I’ll try to clear my schedule.”
Tomorrow, Wade said.
“Tomorrow? Zina’s lips twitched involuntarily as she looked at Wade’s resolute expression. “You really know how to give me trouble. But I shouldn’t have anything else to do tomorrow, so I’ll go with you,” she said.
