Chapter 19 – A Little Payback
Sophia’s Pov
I stood by the window of my new office-the very one Lorenzo used to sit in.
His favorite leather chair was mine now, the one he always leaned into while barking orders and humiliating me.
I crossed my arms and stared out at the city. It felt good to win.
But I hadn’t won yet. Not really. This was just the beginning.
The door slammed open behind me.
“Get out.”
I didn’t flinch.
I turned slowly to see him standing there. Disheveled. Breathing heavily. Rage and something else swimming in his eyes-desperation.
“I said, get out of my office,” he spat.
I raised a brow. “Your office?”
His jaw clenched. “You don’t deserve this. You stole it.”
I walked to my desk and sat down, crossing my legs slowly.
“I bought the shares, Lorenzo. Legally. Fair and square. Maybe you were too busy screwing Renata to notice.”
His face darkened. “You think this is funny?”
“Actually?” I leaned forward. “Yeah. I think it’s hilarious.”
He slammed his hands on the desk. “Sophia, please.” His voice cracked. “You’ve made you point. You’ve humiliated me. You’ve hurt me enough. Just… give me the company back. You don’t have to do this.”
‘Did I have to lose Ariella too?”
He shut his eyes.
‘Bring her back,” I said, cold and quiet. “Bring my daughter back, Lorenzo. Maybe then, we’ll talk about mercy.”
‘I didn’t-”
‘You let her die,” I snapped, standing up. “You stood by and let them do whatever they wanted to ner. And when she needed surgery, you had your man tell the hospital you didn’t care if she lived or died.”
His face turned pale.
“I didn’t know-”
“I don’t care anymore,” I cut him off. “You’re not the victim here, Lorenzo. You’re just a weak cowardly man who finally got what he deserved.”
He stumbled back a step, like I’d slapped him again.
But I wasn’t done.

“You should get going,” I said. “In a few minutes, the press will be all over this building.”
And just like I predicted, the news hit like a wildfire.
Every TV screen. Every headline. Every online gossip blog.
–
‘Sophia Moretti Returns From the Dead Steals Company From Ex-Husband’
‘Lorenzo Moretti’s Fall from Grace: Former Wife Becomes New CEO’
The Woman Who Outsmarted the Mafia Prince’
I watched it all with a cup of tea in hand, legs crossed like royalty.
Lorenzo, on the other hand, looked like a shell of himself on the screen.
His eyes were sunken, his jaw tense as reporters surrounded him outside the building.
“Mr. Moretti, how do you feel about your ex-wife becoming CEO?”
“Is it true she now owns sixty percent of the company?”
“Didn’t she fake her death?”
He shoved past them, silent. Broken.
Let the world see what I saw for years. Let them see the man behind the mask.
Later that night, I was in my penthouse when my phone lit up.
Blocked number.
I picked it up.
“You think this is over?” Lorenzo’s voice hissed on the other end.
I smiled to myself. “Oh? Still not used to losing?”
“I swear, Sophia,” he growled. “If you don’t go to the press tomorrow and clear this up… if you don’t give me back what’s mine… I’ll ruin you.”
“Please do,” I said, lounging on the couch. “You can try.”
“I have your nudes,” he spat. “I’ll leak them. I’ll show the world what a dirty, cheap whore you are.
“Do it.”
There was silence on the other end.
“Go ahead, Lorenzo. Show the world how you treated your wife like a plaything. Show them how you tore a woman down piece by piece, all while pretending to be some noble prince. I dare you.”
“You think I won’t-”
“I think you’ve forgotten who I am now,” I said. My voice was quiet, but every word landed like a bullet. “I’m the CEO of your company. I’m the woman the world is cheering for. I’m not afraid of you anymore.”
“You bitch-”
“Call me what you want,” I interrupted. “But if you even try it… if you leak a single image, I promise you, Lorenzo, I will burn what’s left of your life to the ground. You won’t have a company You won’t have your title. You won’t even have your precious Renata.”
He went silent.
“Don’t test me,” I whispered. “You thought losing your company was pain? I haven’t even started.”
Then I hung up.
I dropped the phone on the table and picked up my glass of wine.
Let him seethe. Let him choke on his ego. He will regret crossing me. It’s time he realized that truly Sophia Moretti – the timid wife is dead.
