Chapter 2
I trembled all over, curled up in Emma’s warm embrace, fear nearly suffocating me.
Declan’s fingers had already reached into his suit pocket, where he kept Ariana’s paternity test report!
Anyone who tried to help me would instantly turn into a demon and push me into eternal damnation the moment they saw that
report.
Fear drove me to break free from Emma’s embrace.
“No! Don’t take that out!” I gripped his wrist desperately. “I’ll never run away again…”
Before I could finish speaking, a sharp slap landed across my face.
The taste of blood immediately filled my mouth, but I couldn’t care about the pain-I just desperately clung to Declan’s legs.
Declan remained unmoved by my pleas. “Emma, read this first, then decide whether you want to take Ashley away.”
I could only kneel and turn to Emma, kowtowing in desperation. “Please, Aunt Emma, take me away
now.”
My tears fell in despair.
I knew better than anyone that once Emma saw that paper, she would definitely have Declan kill me.
Thinking I was just scared, Emma frowned and pulled me into her arms with concern. “It’s okay, Ashley. I’ll take you away after
I read it.”
But the more I begged, the more curious she became.
Eventually, Emma still let go of her embrace and walked toward the paternity report.
The moment Emma looked at the paternity report, I still held onto a sliver of hope.
Emma had raised Ariana for so many years-she must know whose child Ariana was. She would never abandon me.
However, I was ultimately too naive.
Emma staggered backward, slipped, and stepped on my bloodied hand.
“Impossible…” her voice trembled, barely coherent.
She suddenly looked up at me, and this time, there was no previous compassion in her eyes-only bone-chilling coldness.
She said, “You’re right, Ashley deserves to die. She doesn’t
deserve to live!”
It was over. Everything was over.
I closed my eyes in despair, waiting only for the next wave of pain to arrive.
But aside from Emma’s cold words, nothing happened.
Could it be that she was just talking, and still had a bit of feeling for me in her heart?
Just as I opened my eyes in wild joy, Emma had already rushed out the door.
I saw her eyes filled with terror. What was she afraid of?
Before I could figure out the reason, I suddenly heard hurried footsteps in the hallway, followed by the dull thud of something heavy hitting the ground, mixed with neighbors’ screams.
What happened? Did someone jump from the building?
My whole body turned ice cold, as if I had fallen into a frozen abyss.
Declan walked to the window and glanced down, a cold smile playing at the corners of his mouth as he stared coldly at my disheveled state.
I crawled toward the window in disbelief, only to see a bloody, mangled figure lying below.
A crowd of onlookers had already gathered around.
The moment I recognized that face, it was like thunder exploding in my mind.
It was Emma who had jumped.
After seeing the paternity report, she chose suicide.
“Your aunt died because of you-this is all your fault!” Declan coldly dropped this statement and left, leaving me alone to scream in endless agony.
What exactly was in Ariana’s paternity report?
It made Emma choose death over facing the truth, and made everyone who knew want me to disappear immediately!
The unknown truth filled me with terror.
I comforted myself over and over-I would soon be able to go to college and escape this hell!
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Declan opened the door, and a group of police officers poured
The lead officer showed his badge and said calmly to Declan, “Regarding the woman’s jumping incident, Mr. Hamilton, please bring your daughter with you to the police station.”
