Spencer saw their father’s temper rising. He walked towards
Adelaide and said gently, “Adele, let’s talk about this at home.
This really isn’t the place.”
“Family business should be handled at home, sure. But first, let’s
deal with the case,” came a calm voice from nearby. Lyndon
walked into view and continued, “You’re the relatives of
Amanda Pierce and Adelaide Pierce, correct? Then let’s review
the security footage before we go any further.
Amanda’s heart skipped a beat.
She knew very well that she couldn’t hide anything from
security footage.
Lyndon turned the laptop screen toward them and hit play.
From the moment Adelaide sat down and Amanda threw
coffee at her, to Amanda picking up a shattered piece of glass
and lunging at her, it was all crystal clear. Every angle showed
Amanda’s intent to hurt Adelaide.
The audience was astonished. That was not even close to a little
spat to them at all.
Garrett was burning with rage. He turned to hold Adelaide’s

hand to offer comfort, but she moved away as if he were
something dirty.
His hand closed on empty air, which hurt his feelings a little bit.
Amanda wailed, “It wasn’t like that! She provoked me, I just lost
control!”
“Yeah! My daughter has always been a good girl! If something
like this happened, she must’ve been pushed. I know my
daughter very well!” She turned to her husband. “Finley, say
something!”
Finley looked more conflicted than anyone. Adelaide’s move
had put him in an impossible position.
Out of helplessness, Finley gave Spencer a subtle look.
Spencer understood immediately and gently took Adelaide’s
hand. “Adele, let’s talk.”
Before Adelaide could refuse, Garrett grabbed her other hand.
“If you’re going to talk to her, then you should talk to me too. I’m
her husband.”
But Amanda clung to Garrett’s arm with a tearful face. “Garrett,
don’t go! I’m scared!”
So now four of them stood in a row, hands locked. It looked like
some messed–up love polygon. The onlookers were stunned.
Chapter 29
Adelaide wanted to die from sheer humiliation. She had never
felt so embarrassed in her life. She wanted to get rid of everyone right at the moment.
“Let go!” Garrett snapped.
“No, I won’t.” Amanda clung tighter to Garrett.
Adelaide had seen enough. If she stayed a second longer, she might throw up. Besides, Lyndon had already said he would
handle things from here.
“Just go pamper you precious Mandy,” she said coldly, shaking
off Garrett’s hand.
That upset Garrett a bit, but Spencer’s lips curled in satisfaction.
The smile stopped when Adelaide shook his hand off too.
Adelaide walked out. And Spencer followed her right behind.
Garrett tried to chase after her since he didn’t want to let them
be alone together. However, Amanda was determined to cling
to him and he couldn’t break away.
This whole scene was more dramatic than a soap opera. The
crowd was once again floored.
Finley looked stiff and exhausted. He didn’t even care to argue
anymore. He just wanted to resolve things and go home.
“Officer Sweeney, Finley tried to catch Lyndon’s attention.
Lyndon smiled politely, “Sir, your daughter’s behaviors were quite dangerous. From what we observed, there’s a strong reason to believe she may attempt to harm Adelaide again.”
Finley couldn’t refute it anymore.
Outside the police station.
Adelaide suddenly pulled out a candy. “Want one?”
The candy reminded her of a childhood memory. One stormy night when their parents were away, she was terrified of sleeping alone. Young Spencer had rushed to her with candy and stayed with her all night.
She had always cherished the brother who protected her.
But why had it changed?
“What’s wrong? You don’t like strawberry candy anymore?”
“No,” Adelaide replied coldly. Spencer’s smile froze. “You asked
me to come out here to talk me into dropping the charges, didn’t
you?” Adelaide cut right to the chase.
Spencer took a deep breath and tried to convince her, “Adele, I
know it’s not fair to you. But Mandy is my little sister. She’s sick.
I have no choice but to help her. I’m his brother.”
“All I can do is make it up to you. Once you go abroad, all this
mess will go away. Adele…” Spencer continued.
“Spencer, what do you think Dad would say if he knew you had
feelings for me?”
