It’s not me, it’s the teacher’s wife.
“Is that Adelaide?” Cierra Schmitt sounded tired and weak.
Adelaide’s heart skipped a beat, she had a bad feeling.
“It’s me, Mrs. Schmitt.”
“Adelaide, come take a look at your teacher for the last time.

He’s been mentioning you several times these days. I didn’t
want to make this call to you, but I’m afraid he will regret it,”
Cierra couldn’t hold back and started crying, covering her
mouth.
Adelaide’s face was as white as a sheet.
She didn’t know about her mentor’s late–stage cancer.
When I arrived at Anderson Schmitt’s house, Adelaide was still
in a daze. Cierra led her into the room and saw that Anderson,
who used to be full of life, was now thin and frail, with
machines beeping on either side of the bed.
Cierra wiped her tears and said, “Pancreatic cancer was already
in the late stage when it was diagnosed. At first, Andy told me to
look for you.”

Adelaide turned away. “Then why didn’t I…”
Cierra raised her chin and said, “Andy woke up, go talk to him.
for a bit.”
Adelaide nodded and walked to the edge of the bed.
When he saw her, Anderson smiled, opened his mouth, but
couldn’t make a sound.
Adelaide couldn’t control her tears anymore, “Mr. Schmitt, I’m
sorry.””
Half a year ago, I saw Anderson for the last time. I sent him and Cierra off at the airport, saying they were going abroad to
reunite with their children.
How did it end up like this?
She had no idea at all in the past six months.
Anderson just gave her hand a tight squeeze, as if he was trying to convey something.
Cierra said, “Kid, Andy asked if you’re doing well.”
Adelaide nodded heavily, “Okay, teacher.”
Anderson frowned heavily, Adelaide got the message, the
teacher said she was lying.
Chapter 6
At that moment, she couldn’t hold it anymore. “Teacher, I’m
sorry, I lied. I’m not doing well, not at all.”
Anderson looked at her with heartache, feeling like a thread of
air.
Adelaide wiped away her tears, “But don’t worry, I’ll take care
of the mess and then live my life to the fullest.”
During the half hour with the teacher, Adelaide was talking to
herself the whole time, and Anderson had his eyes closed most
of the time.
She walked out of the room, she went downstairs with Cierra.
“Mrs. Schmitt, you said you contacted me, why have I never
received any messages?”
“Didn’t Garrett tell you?” Cierra asked.
Adelaide shook her head in confusion, “No.”
Cierra was angry: “Andy asked me to call you, I did, but Garrett answered the phone. I told him Andy was sick and wanted to see you. Garrett said you even quit your part–time job as a vocal teacher, so there’s no teacher–student relationship anymore.”
“When I heard the news, I was so angry, but I didn’t want Andy to feel bad. So I just made up some excuses to appease him. But recently he kept mentioning you more and more, so I had no

choice but to call you again.”
This statement, Adelaide was shocked.
She asked, “Mrs. Schmitt, when was it half a year ago?”
Cierra remembered, “End of April.”
Adelaide immediately did the math in her head, the fact that
she was working as a vocal teacher part–time, she kept it a
secret from Garrett at first. It wasn’t until they decided to get
married at the end of the year, that she confessed in June. Garrett was very angry when he heard, saying he could support
her and didn’t want her to work so hard part–time.
