Chapter 7
Leah was stunned by this stern rebuke. She collapsed to the floor, lips trembling, unable to say a word.
Mr. Blake Sr. took a deep breath, turned to look at Pierce, his eyes full of disappointment: “Pierce, do you know who she is?”
“I didn’t tell you the truth initially because I didn’t want to burden you.”
“So I planned to reveal it after the engagement.”
“But you actually… sigh…”
Pierce’s fingertips trembled slightly. He opened his mouth but couldn’t make a sound.
I stood up, straightened my coffee-stained dress, and spoke flatly: “Mr. Blake Sr., don’t make things difficult for him.”
“Since Blake Group doesn’t welcome me, I’ll leave.”
With that, I walked toward the door.
“Wait!” Pierce’s father hurriedly blocked me, his tone almost pleading, “Sherry, this is the Blake family’s fault. Please give us a chance to make amends!”
I stopped and glanced back at Pierce.
His face was pale, his eyes full of shock and confusion.
“A chance?” I laughed lightly, “Uncle, do you think Blake Group still has the qualifications to discuss chances with me?”
As soon as I finished speaking, the conference room’s projection screen suddenly lit up, displaying real-time financial news:
[BREAKING! Blake Group stock plummets 30%, market value evaporates nearly ten billion!]
The executives gasped, some even collapsing into their chairs in shock.
Pierce suddenly looked up at the screen, his pupils contracting.
I slowly took out another phone and dialed: “You can stop now.”
A minute later, the stock price curve on the screen suddenly stopped falling and began to slowly rise.
The conference room fell into deep silence, everyone’s eyes focused on me.
As if looking at a monster.
Pierce’s father took a deep breath, suddenly turned around, and slapped Leah!
“You useless thing! Kneel down!”
“Apologize to Miss Stone!”
Leah spun around twice from the slap, her teeth loosened, and blood flowed from the corner of her mouth.
Seeing Leah’s pitiful state, Pierce rushed forward, his hands trembling as he helped her up.
“Dad, let’s talk calmly. Why did you hit her?”
I watched this scene with cold amusement.
Pierce’s originally handsome face was now flushed red with anger.
His protective posture toward Leah reminded me of how he had countless times refused my invitations for this woman.
“Forget it.”
I slowly adjusted my sleeves.
“Since Pierce is determined to protect her, I don’t need your apology.”
Pierce’s father’s face turned grim. Without a word, he slapped Leah again.
This time, Leah fell directly to her knees, the sound of her knees hitting the floor making everyone present shrink back.
“Pierce! Move aside!” Pierce’s father roared, “Do you realize who you’re protecting? Do you know what kind of person you’ve offended?”
Pierce stubbornly stood his ground, spreading his arms wide, firmly protecting Leah.
“No matter who she is, no one has the right to bully Leah like this!”
Pierce turned to glare at me, his eyes burning with anger.
“Sherry, do you think just because you have some background, you can humiliate people like this? Shameless! Despicable!”
Eyes in the conference room turned to me again.
On the projection screen, Blake Group’s stock price curve was still fluctuating slightly, reminding everyone of what had just happened.
I walked up to Pierce.
The faint scent of his cologne filled my nostrils-it was the one Leah had given him. I remembered.
Three months ago, on his birthday, I had given Pierce a watch worth ten million.
After politely thanking me, he never wore it again.
But the cheap cologne Leah gave him, he used every day.
