Chapter 7
After getting into the passenger seat of Eric’s car, I chuckled. “Told you–they’re just kids.”
People fall out of love fast when they’re that young.
He glanced at me with those dark eyes. “Seatbelt.”
“Oh…” I buckled up.
The ride was smooth all the way to my place.
I was puzzled. “How do you know where I live?”
He casually rolled down the window, letting the wind in. “When Lucas was stuck at home studying, I’m the one who delivered all those gifts he left at your door.”
I turned to him. “He’s moved on. You can start delivering gifts somewhere else.”
Eric tapped the steering wheel with his fingers, then changed the subject.
“He doesn’t seem too happy about us being together.”
“Oh yeah?” I said, opening the door to leave.
Then I heard his calm voice behind me. “When are we getting the marriage license? You and me.”
His words stirred up ripples in the quiet night.
I spun around, voice rising. “What did you say?”
“When are you planning to marry me?” he repeated, half–smiling.
I stared at him for a while, weighing the pros and cons in my head.
Eric looked up, calm and to the point. “If this is about a marriage of convenience, I’m probably the best option you’ve got–decent background, decent looks, and a simple private life.
“I’ll send you my medical records, financials, credit report, and proof I’ve got no criminal record. Ask me anything else you want to know.”
I went quiet.
Calling his looks and background “decent” was him being modest.
Eric was seriously good–looking.
Lucas was handsome, with sharp features with that rebellious edge. But Eric had that mature masculine charm—and

the confidence of someone in a position of power.
And the Jacobson Group was obviously a powerhouse.
“Let me think about it.” I pressed my lips together.
“I’ll be waiting for your answer within a week.”
He gave me a faint smile.
A typical CEO.
Eric clearly had a strong need for control.

Whether it was business, the company, or personal stuff like love and marriage–everything had to stay under his con- trol.
I got home, showered, and was just done drying my hair when someone knocked on the door.
I checked the door cam, surprised. “Lucas?”
I hesitated for a second, then opened the door. “What can I do for you?”
His dark eyes locked on mine, voice quiet but firm. What he said felt more like a warning. “We’re over you. Don’t hurt her just because you’re jealous.”
I held back the rush of emotions bubbling up.
He finally realized his feelings; he knew he was deeply in love with the Talia!
I nodded. “Okay!”
Lucas frowned. After a moment, he said, “You don’t have to get all upset over this, or push yourself to be with anoth- er guy.”
I thought for a second, then said seriously, “It’s not about forcing myself. I’ve always planned to get married, even be- fore going abroad. You guys knew that, didn’t you?”
Then, you guys kept making trouble. Ha!
Lucas froze for a second as something clicked.
His lips moved slightly, but in the end, he said nothing.
Then someone stepped out of the elevator.
Lucas clenched his jaw. “What are you doing here?”
Andy glanced at him.
“Speak! What are you doing here?” Lucas snapped.

Andy sneered. “I’m here for the same reason you are.”

Lucas clearly didn’t believe it. He grabbed Andy by the collar, gritting out each word, “You don’t know how much Talia liked you? How could you do this to her?”
Andy’s face turned cold. A slow, sarcastic smile tugged at his lips. “I won’t fight you for her.”
Then after a while, he leaned in close to Lucas’s car and whispered, “And don’t you dare fight me for her either.”
After that, he walked into my place and slammed the door behind him.
I was puzzled.
I listened at the door for a bit. When things finally went quiet, I let out a sigh of relief.
Lucas’s fiery temper felt somewhat more dangerous than Andy’s.
I sat down on the couch. “You here to warn me too? Lucas already did that. You can leave.”
“Eric’s not a good guy,” Andy said.
For some reason, after he said that, I suddenly realized that I had no idea who the mysterious man was.
In all the dreams I’d had, the mysterious man never even showed his face.
Was it Eric?
No, if it were him, he’d be falling for the Talia, not asking me to get married.
My expression shifted, uncertain.
My head was a mess, but out of nowhere, I thought of something totally random. “You’ve never treated me like an older sister, have you?”
The other three always treated me like a big sister, but Andy never did.
He didn’t answer that. “Hugo and Calvin are not good men either. And Lucas was just dumb.”
I could see that.
Each one of them had layers of schemes going on.
But as long as I wasn’t their target, it had nothing to do with me.
I said casually, “Then you’d better protect that little girl.”
You all could tear each other apart, just leave me out of it.
The room went still.
Andy looked out through the windows, chin lifted slightly as he gazed at the moon hanging in the sky.
He smiled faintly and murmured, almost like a sigh, “People love a goddess they can drag down to earth.”

So in the dream, the one who forced me to stay by his side when I was sick, and used me as his plaything was Andy.
My teeth clenched, I didn’t know how to face him. “Leave my house.”
Andy stood there, smiling with something unreadable in his eyes. “What’s that look supposed to mean?”
I forced the words out. “I said, get out.”
Andy turned and walked out.
The moment the door closed behind him, I heard a dull thud outside.
The sound of fists hitting flesh.

Lucas was still here. The two of them were brawling right outside my door.
I’d had enough. I yelled through the door, “If you wanna fight, go downstairs! Stop disturbing the neighbors!”
