Katie’s eyes scanned the hospital room, her gaze settling on the door to the next room.
She had been told that Liam was being treated there, and she couldn’t wait to see him.
As she entered the room, her heart sank.
Liam’s arms were wrapped in bandages, his face pale and drawn.
He looked up at her, a weak smile on his lips.
“You’re awake,” he said softly.
Katie looked guilty. “Look at how hurt you are because of me,”
Liam’s eyes locked onto hers, his gaze intense. “It doesn’t matter,” he said. “I’ll do it again an again. I’d give my life for you, Katie.”
‘Those words are not to be taken lightly, Liam.”
His smile was weak. “If you died in that fire, I wouldn’t be able to take it,”
Katie’s face softened, and she smiled sadly. “Thank you for saving me then,”

Katie’s eyes met his, and she said, “I’m only doing this because you saved my life, not because ve’re besties or anything. Don’t get your hopes up.”
He didn’t look pissed. Instead he looked amused.
As if he was sure he had a second chance. Or this was a start of something new between them.
Suddenly, his hand reached out, and he grasped Katie’s hand.

He turned to Katie with a pleading look. “Are you hurt somewhere? Anywhere? I’m sorry I couldn’t each you on time,” he said. “My mom’s condition took a turn for the worse, and I almost lost
1er.”
‘It’s okay,” she breathed. “You don’t have to save me all the time. You’ve saved me so many times already.”
Lucian’s gaze flicked to Liam, and Katie could sense his displeasure.
But he said nothing, his face a mask of control.
Katie turned to Liam, her smile warm. “Thank you again, Liam. I’ll come visit you later.”
His whole face lit up. “I’ll look forward to it,”
Katie stood in front of the mirror, smoothing out her emerald dress.
It was Grandpa Russell’s party.
Lucian appeared behind her, his eyes apologetic.
“I’m sorry, Katie,” he said. “I won’t be able to come to the party with you. More members are getting seriously poisoned, and I need to be there in case things get out of hand.”
She reached out and held his arm. “It’s okay, it’s fine,” she said. “I’ll be okay. You do what you car for the pack, and let me know if anything goes wrong.”
“Good luck in finding a healer,”
Katie smiled, her lips curving upward. “I would be needing that. Thank you.”
As she left for the party, Katie’s mind was focused on finding a healer.
But upon arrival, she saw someone else first.

He was standing by the buffet, his bandaged arm a reminder of his recent injuries.

As they chatted, Richard approached them, a warm smile on his face. “Thank you for making it, Katie. I’m glad you could come.”
Katie smiled back at him. “I’m happy to be here,” And thank you for helping me with the healer. Did you manage to contact one?”
Richard nodded. “Yes, I was able to reach one. She’ll be here at the party.”
Just as the party was getting into full swing, Liam suddenly appeared, carrying a large bouquet of flowers and a stack of presents.
He looked desperate.

“Liam, stop,” she hissed. “Get up and stop embarrassing me.”
But Liam refused to budge, his eyes fixed on hers. “I’m not going to stand up until you forgive me and take me back,”
Everyone began to stare. Some were curious. Others amused.
Katie’s embarrassment turned to mortification as she realized she was the center of attention.
Dakota who had just arrived at the party pulled out her phone and started recording the scene.
She quickly sent the video to Lucian, captioning it with a taunting message. “See your wife doing a reunion with her old family. It must suck so bad for you, wouldn’t it?”
Lucian, who was already on his way to the venue, received the video and felt a bit irritated.
As he arrived at the party, he found Liam first.
On his knees. Begging Katie.
He hauled him up shooting him daggers.
“What is this supposed to be man? Better fix up.” He glared at Liam.

But then, the healer, Maya, arrived at the party.
Richard introduced her to Katie, and they exchanged pleasantries.
Lucian’s eyes jolted in surprise though.
Maya was his first girlfriend, someone he had thought he would spend his life with. But that was a lifetime ago.
Lucian’s eyes flicked between Maya and Katie.
He hadn’t expected to see Maya here, and he certainly hadn’t expected her to be the healer
