Chapter 10
Garrett’s face twisted with anger. He threw his food at Phoebe. “You pregnant bitch! Why can’t you stay home instead of following me around?!”
Daphne’s eyes welled with tears. “That’s YOUR baby in my sister’s belly. How can you be so heartless?”
Garrett shoved her away violently, “GET OUT!”
Then he turned to me, “Let’s ignore them and finish our meal.”
I raised an eyebrow and called a waiter. “Please call an ambulance for this pregnant woman.”
Just then, Garrett’s phone rang. His father’s cursing voice came through: “Garrett Montgomery, your recklessness has limits! If anything happens to Phoebe’s baby, you can kiss your position as CEO goodbye!”
I watched him with amusement. He hung up, as the ambulance arrived.
He rose glumly. “Rylee, I’ll take you to dinner another time.”
Then he dragged Phoebe toward the exit.
Blood trailed behind her the entire way.
I watched the drama unfold with satisfaction, finding the food suddenly quite delicious.
Then unexpectedly, I gagged.
I looked at Julian in confusion. Yet he immediately stood up, excited. “Are you…?”
I shook my head. “I don’t know.”
My periods were never regular. Last time I was pregnant, I hadn’t even noticed until it was too late.
When Garrett had taken ten vials of my blood, I’d passed out.
When I woke up, the doctor told me I’d been pregnant but lost the baby.
Julian instantly carried me straight to the hospital. “We need to check.”
“Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Hayes! You’ll soon be welcoming a new family member.”
Julian picked me up and spun me around in excitement, but quickly set me down again.
He kissed my hand with deep emotion. “Rylee, I’m so happy.”
At that moment, Garrett appeared behind us, looking devastated. “Rylee…”
A nurse rushed to pull him away. “Mr. Montgomery! What are you doing here? The mother is hemorrhaging–we need your signature!”
He was dragged back
A day later, we learned Phoebe had given birth to twin girls.
Garrett’s parents took just one look and left, dragging Garrett with them. “We’ve found a suitable girl from a good family. You need to meet her.”
However, Daphne and Phoebe frantically clung to Garrett “Garrett, you can’t abandon us!”
His parents were ruthless. “Throw these gold diggers into the slums!”
“They’ve brought nothing but bad luck! Since you two showed up, my son has changed completely–nearly bankrupting our company!”

Chapter 10
Six months later, I gave birth to a baby girl.
The Hayes family was ecstatic, not sleeping all night. The next day, they announced the news to the world, celebrating their new granddaughter.
Julian guarded our daughter like a treasure. Her grandparents barely got to hold her before he took her back.
At the one–month celebration, he proudly showed her off to everyone.
I watched him with a constant smile, suddenly feeling someone staring intensely at me.
I turned to see Garrett.
He no longer had that confident swagger of before–just a shadow of his former self, looking far more haggard and worn than I remembered.
Beside him stood a confident–looking woman–Margaux Westfield, a Manhattan heiress ten years his senior.
With Montgomery Corp failing under Garrett’s mismanagement, they could only survive through this marriage alliance.
So Garrett had been pushed into marrying Margaux, who was on her third marriage and had two children.
When Margaux saw me, there was no hostility in her eyes. She smiled and approached. “So you’re Garrett’s ex–wife. Pretty. But too soft–hearted. Those two side pieces? I’d have thrown them to work the strip in Vegas and see how they like hustling for real.”
Garrett’s face darkened as he whispered my name.
I turned away, taking our daughter from Julian and soothing her.
Then I smiled at Margaux. “Enjoy the party. I need to feed the baby.”
Julian put his arm around us as we left.
After that, I didn’t hear about Garrett for a long time.
The only news came when a TV report showed Garrett hospitalized after a domestic dispute.
But I had zero interest and changed the channel immediately.
Returning to our bedroom, I found Julian gazing tenderly at our daughter’s crib. The sight warmed my heart.
I hugged him from behind and stroked our baby’s cheek.
The turbulence of my past life had been replaced by the happiness I now felt.
