Violet’s POV
There was a collective intake of breath from the elders, as
though they couldn’t believe I’just public went against the King‘
s order.
The royal family looked furious.
“How dare you talk to my mother like that!” Prince Matthew
snapped.
“I am simply letting you know about my decision. It’s you who
is raising your voice.” God do I hate this guy.
“You have no right to decide anything,” The Queen stood up,
glaring at me. “Asher hasn’t officially crowned you as his Luna
yet. Your members haven’t accepted you. So you have no say in
the pack business!”
My heart sank. That was what I had been worrying about too. I
could give an order as Asher’s Luna, but nobody would listen.
I was embarrassed. The royal family looked at me with a
mocking expression like I was a clown. Then one of the elders
present broke the silence:
“Your majesty, forgive me, but Alpha Asher did announce
Violet as his Luna to all the senior members not long ago. As far
as I am concerned, she is the current Luna of this pack.”
I glanced at the elder in surprise. I didn’t know him. And I was
shocked to know that there were people willing to take my side
in this pack.
“But there’s no ceremony-”
“Ceremony or not, she’s been acknowledged by Alpha Asher
already,” said another elder. The rest of the people stayed in
silence, deadpan.
I gave them a grateful look and turned back to the King, who
looked furious to be challenged. “Your Majesty, I simply ask
that we postpone this till Asher and his parents recover. His
parent’s testimony is important. They can help us narrow
down the suspect-”
“There is ONLY ONE suspect, and that’s the rogues!” The King
bellowed, cutting me off. “Your intention seems ill. The murder
is out there, yet you are reluctant to chase them down. Who’s
side are you on? Ours? Or the rogues?!”
It was not easy to stand up to the King. But anger empowered me. All I wanted was to be absolutely certain before launching thousands of soldiers to battlefield, which was reasonable. Yet the royal family tried to paint me as a cold–hearted traitor.
“I guess I can ask you the same question, Your Majesty.” I said with a thumping heart, “Are you looking for revenge or are you
a war manic?”
For a second I thought the King would jump at me and tear my chest apart. But then nothing happened. He simply gazed at me
with a cold gleam in his eyes and said:
“You are dismissed. Next time choose your language carefully, or I shall not pardon you just because you are family.”
I pissed off the most powerful bunch of people big time. But I didn’t regret it. And I most certainly would not give up.
After I left the office, I went to find Kylie. She was the only one who could put me in touch with Isaac. If those people wouldn’t look for more evidence, I would do it myself.
“Well, well, well, guess who’s here asking for my help? It’s my dear sister Violet. You weren’t half this nice when you called me a liar in front of all the members. Does that make you a
hypocrite?” she taunted.
I knew my sister wouldn’t have any nice things to say. Right
now she was locked in her room waiting for her sentence. She
probably hated me more now thinking that I was the reason
she ended up like this.
“You can call me whatever you want. Just help me put in touch
with Isaac. Thousands of soldiers‘ lives are at stake.”
She let out a loud, sarcastic laugh, “And why would I do that?
Those fucking members turn their backs on me! Abandon me!
Left me hang here to dry! Including Asher! I wish them all
fucking burn in hell.”
She was vindictive, as I had expected. But I would not leave this
room until some progress.
“OK, Let’s forget about the morals and responsibilities then. But
isn’t this what you’ve always wanted to do?” I advanced on her,
“Being the savior. Leading the pack. That’s what a Luna would
- do. Just imagine who many members will be grateful to you
when you save their lives.”
She gulped, apparently hooked. After a small pause, she said,
“Fine. I can give vou a hand. But vou must promise not to expel
me even if I’m sentenced guilty.”
I pondered for a little while and said yes. It seemed like a small price to pay compared to the bigger crisis that we had.
Kylie mindlinked Isaac and set a time and location to meet. It’s
tonight, at the east side of the forest. I left her room and headed
straight to the forest for my date.
The forest was dark and forbidding like the last time I was
there. I traveled in the darkness alone, heart thumping in fear to meet this mysterious man. If he was really responsible for
the fire and was straight–up evil, I would be in a lot of danger.
But too late to regret this now.
The clock hit midnight. A strange scent approached.
“Asher would let you wander around at this dangerous part of
town? It’s so not like him.” He stepped into the moonlight was a
crocked smile. I gasped. They looked strikingly alike.
“So, why are you here? Did my twin send you to moral lecture
me?”
It seemed that he didn’t know what happened to Asher and his
parents. That made him innocent. I was so glad that I made this
trip.
“Asher’s unconscious. His parents are in a coma. Somebody set a
fire in the packhouse and almost killed them.”
His shock and worry were real. Although he was responsible
for Elena’s death, I still felt sorry for him at this very moment.
His parents were in danger, yet he couldn’t even be there for
them.
“How did it!” he growled.
“I was hoping you could answer that question,” I said, watching
his reaction closely.
“Me?! You think…” he drew in a sharp breath, furious. “You
think I fucking killed my own parents?”
“You love killing, don’t you! You organized that surprise attack
at us. You killed Asher’s Gamma Patrick. And Asher said you
hated your parent! You have all the motives!”
He strode up to me and seized my throat. His face twisted with
rage.
“I did none of those fucking things you said! There might be
monsters around you but it isn’t me!!!”
I gasped, struggling to breath.
But if it really wasn’t him, then who?
