Samuel’s face crumpled. Tears welled in his eyes, his voice thick with barely suppressed sobs.

“Ms… Ms. Sterling, I know I was wrong. I underestimated you… Please…”

“Look… what if … what if we just proceed with the marriage? Like Dad wanted? We could go to the registry tomorrow! Make it official!”

A slow, knowing smile curved my lips. I met his pleading gaze, the amusement in mine sharp and cold. “Mr. Rockwell, it’s too late. You rejected that path yourself, have you forgotten?”

My words struck him like a physical blow. He lowered his head in silence.

Seeing the empire he built reduced to rubble, Robert could only stand by, shoulders slumped, releasing a long, weary sigh.

The silence in the vast terminal became suffocating, every spectator holding their breath, waiting for the axe to fall.

After a long pause, I turned to look at Robert and sighed softly.

“Uncle Rockwell, for my father’s sake, I might consider letting you off the hook. But I have one condition.

Robert’s eyes suddenly lit up.

“Name it! Anything! Whatever it takes to save us!”

I raised a hand, pointing unerringly at Samuel, whose tear-streaked face paled further.”Whoever created the mess cleans it up.”

Samuel’s expression changed instantly.

“What do you mean by that? Are you suggesting my father should disown me for the greater good and cast me

out?”

I spread my hands, the picture of cool detachment.

“Mr. Rockwell, weren’t you just begging me to spare your family?”

“Now, when I offer a solution, you balk? Truly, being the ‘merciful’ one is a thankless role.”

My gesture shifted, my finger now aimed like a blade towards the trembling, forgotten Zoey.

“My seat got taken, someone’s gotta take responsibility, right?”

“Ms. Williams is a useful tool, but far too… insignificant… to bear the full weight of this disaster. You, however, fit the role perfectly.”

This final barb was deliberately delivered for Robert alone. I was giving the Rockwell family a way out.

After all, the the fault lay squarely with Samuel and his secretary. The rest of the Rockwells were innocent.

After a brief hesitation, Robert gave me a firm nod.

“Ms. Sterling, we’ll proceed as you suggested. Tomorrow, I’ll hold a press conference as the head of the Rockwell family.”

“And… publicly severing all ties with Samuel Rockwell!”

Samuel opened his mouth – a final, strangled protest – but the words died unspoken. He crumpled where he stood,

the fight gone. The disaster was of his making; its ruin was his burden to bear.

As the spark that ignited the whole incident, Zoey was secretly sent away.

Her crime – the unforgivable insolence hurled down the phone line – guaranteed she would never trouble Baycrest again. An anonymous cell, far from home, was her only future.

One year later, business brought me back to Baycrest.

Rockwell Enterprises had completely vanished.

The end.

This is the end of the story.

Now, let’s go for a new identity, a new story.

Get ready for a new journey in “Missed Lovers”.

Lanie endures a series of heartbreaks at the hands of her childhood friends, Ethan and Mason. Lanie is pushed to her limit when they continue to prioritize Qiana over her, so she decides to leave LA and marry someone else in Miami…

See you in the story!
