Chapter 10

Chapter 10

Aiden’s mouth hung open, gasping heavily, his tall frame swaying, barely able to stand.

I also looked at that report. My gaze paused on the cold conclusion for a few seconds. I felt a brief surge of emotion in my chest, but ultimately, it all disappeared.

I no longer looked at anyone, letting the nurse wheel me away. That report fluttered to the cold floor.

Aiden tremblingly bent down to pick up the paper. He stared at the words on the page, and they broke his heart.

He collapsed to his knees, burying his face deep in the cold report, letting out desperate, anguished walls.

“Ahh-” My baby… my child…”

This was the pain of losing his own child, but also the delayed punishment for all the negligence and mistakes he had committed.

Aiden’s cries echoed in the empty corridor, shrill and desperate. However, behind the hospital room door, I lay quietly, ignoring any sounds.

During my week-long hospital stay, Aiden tried to enter the room several times, but was blocked by my father. The expensive supplements Aiden brought were thrown directly into the trash can at the end of the hallway.

My mood, instead, became strangely calm. The physical pain was real, but that heavy sense of life was gone-no more struggling, suffering, or feeling guilty about that child’s future fate.

What remained was living for myself.

On the day of discharge, the sunlight was blinding. My parents carefully supported me as we walked out of the hospital’s main entrance.

Aiden’s car was parked in the shade of distant trees. He seemed to want to approach, but one cold glance from my father froze him in place.

What I hadn’t expected was that Devin was also there-the West family heir, my childhood companion.

On the way back, Devin looked at me with heartache in his eyes. But he still spoke sarcastically: “Regretting it now, aren’t you? Who told you not to choose me back then?”

I glanced at him. Devin’s tone immediately softened.

What do you plan to do next? How about staying at our research institute’s rehabilitation center for a while? The environment is good there, and it’s quiet.”

leaned back in the car seat, looking at the scenery flashing by outside the window.

After experiencing such tremendous trauma, I had actually found peace. My past life had completely collapsed, and I indeed needed a completely fresh start.

Without much hesitation, I nodded and asked my parents’ opinion: “Dad, Mom, may I go?”

Father’s hands gripped the steering wheel tighter, looking at me through the rearview mirror. My face was still pale, but in my eyes, a long-lost anticipation had

‘ekindled.

After experiencing such destruction, I actually wanted to return to that research world that required immense focus and dedication.

Do you want to go?” Father’s voice carried a barely perceptible tremor.

nodded, my gaze determined: “Yes, just like when I was little, I can help in the laboratory, as long as… you still think I’m capable.”

needed knowledge, needed pure focus, needed to stay away from this world full of betrayal and pain.

Father’s eyes immediately moistened. He almost immediately said: “Of course you can, you’re my daughter! I believe you can do it!”

He paused, his voice carrying unprecedented determination and strength: “As long as you’re willing, but now you should rest and recover first. I’ll personally help you return to your research.”

Mom in the back seat also gripped my hand tightly, tears in her eyes: “Good! Tina! Then let’s go back!”

A smile finally appeared on my pale face-one that truly belonged to me, carrying faint vitality. I nodded gently: “Okay.”
